The mental equivalent of fight/flight is submit/subvert. Your ability to be observant is what gives you the edge to stay calm in the face of chaos. When someone is trying to manipulate you emotionally they are creating chaos. Learn to subvert or you’ll submit.
Your world view is typically balanced and on. Then you hear someone praise something or you see an ad for something. That process is someone exposing your mental circuitry. We are all wired to noticed something new, strange, exciting. For survival purposes of course.
To repurpose those instincts for profit is the job of sales. If you recall @rorysutherland ’s book Alchemy, a flower is just weed with a marketing budget. If only have read access to those instincts you will be a consumer who is at the mercy of the latter group.
If you have write access to that layer of the human operating system you will be in great position to sell things to people. The best I’ve met is @mdvex. The man’s instincts and ability to write to those patterns is outright scary.
Typically a good sale is one that meets someone’s needs. A profitable sale is one where you create as massive want. The bigger the want the larger your margin. Ever see someone obsessed to the point of tenting outside to get access? Those are what mighty margins are built on.
Examples include iPhone sales. Opening day Star Wars. The marketing behind those products creates wants.
Every sales thing I’ve talked about is taking you on the road from peddling commodities or trafficking in luxuries. The former is where you learn to sell. The latter? Profit.
