When you do business, you are interacting with 3 things.
1) Time
2) Money
3) Energy
How so? If you run side hustle you choose to work instead of watching TV. You spend time and energy when everyone is tired and ready to give up, you try one more solution.
So here's the payoff for those of you paying attention and learning little things off me. People express these 3 variables emotionally. They rarely express it logically. That's why the key is to empathize with your client's point of view.
When I engage in business with someone, I always want one emotional outcome from them. I want them to think of me as their very best partner to deal with. I don't have to be the biggest, the most expensive, the cheapest. I want to be the one they call when they are stuck.
I want them to feel like I'm the gold standard for how business is to be conducted. That means I follow up with warmth and speed. I relay their concerns and offer solutions and get them excited about options.
So do how you get them to feel like you're that guy? Well, remember each business that is in a position to hire you for work is already bringing something to the table. I learned from Mike that intuitively I work hard at not ruining their magic.
My job is to co-evolve their business with what I bring to the table. Do that and you'll get paid handsomely. Remember if they like you and trust you and you can live up to those attributes then you are already ahead of your competition by leaps and bounds.
As always, logic for things, emotional empathy for people.
