Theories About Why Members Of The Western Media Are Undermining/Discounting BTS's Talent & Influence

Part I

INTRODUCTION

I'm fully prepared to accept the reality that certain people, despite having to do it for a living, will continue to be gleefully dense about the significance of BTS as a driving musical force in the West, and in the United States especially.

Whether it's an incompetent racist hack who bulldozed a cover story) and later insisted unironically that HE introduced America to BTS) or Billb*ard's shady treatment of BTS' place in the music industry apart from the rest of K-pop, there's a lot of ball-dropping going on.

Despite how unsurprising I find the behavior of some members of my own American media, it still makes me both sad and perplexed.

Don't people want to be on the right side of history?

How can they be so blatantly dismissive or outright hostile towards a significant phenomenon?

Beatles comparisons continue to rain down on BTS, and one such example includes retroactively embarrassing press opinions about the Fab Four.

However, the hostility towards BTS feels...different. Ominous even. Oh sure, you have the "get off my lawn" crowd and the "hate it to feel edgy" group, but given the positive mental and emotional messages that BTS bring with them, messages aimed at a young generation that-

sorely needs it, one has to wonder why there's still resistance to understanding BTS as artists or giving them credit for their talent and influence.

And after thinking it over, I have a few theories as to where this resistance is coming from.

I. DISTRUSTING ASIA: SO HOT RIGHT NOW
