1/ I mentioned that our e-commerce company gets 75% of its product from vendors importing from China. This virus is creating havoc with the supply chain and our new products are delayed for weeks. So, we were (and are) in a jam. See following tweet for our judo move...
2/ We have 6.3 million subscribers to 45+ lists. We're creating a Featured Deals page that has 16 product slots that we are selling to other marketers and will drive traffic to this page. Our subs usually see 7 new products a week. now they will see 16 new products if we sell out
3/ This is not an easy shift, but if we are successful, this virus might be the best thing for our business in 20 years. I did say IF WE ARE SUCCESSFUL... not at all certain if we can shift fast enough. Selling 16 product ad slots a week is a challenge. Started Tues this week.

1/ I have been a brutal critic of *free shipping* models for ecommerce, believing in the notion that the economics unless niche, ultra high margins exist.

Our team thought that if we offered free shipping, conversions would go up and avg order size increase.
2/ We are not guided by my *theories* and in November of last year, we rolled out a new site: 20Gadgets.com with free shipping. These same products are also on our main PulseTV.com website. Results?
3/ We are shutting down the website in 4 days. A 90-day test revealed lower conversions & lower average order.

The takeaway for these is not success or failure, but the willingness to expend resources and test things I THINK WILL FAIL. We are all wrong more than right anyway.

1/ Marketers have been mind-fu@ked by FB, Google & agencies. Let's say you pay $1/click. Who owns that data? Not you as the marketer...the media giant owns this click data even though you paid $1 for that click.
2/ FB/Google/Twitter KNOW who clicks to your site but will not tell the marketer. Worse, the MEDIA COMPANIES USE THAT CLICK DATA for your competitors!!
3/ And to add to the insanity, they PRETEND they will not give you this click information BECAUSE OF PRIVACY CONCERNS. And legislation is passed that satisfying faux privacy concerns. You think APPLE/GOOGLE/FACEBOOK care about privacy?

1/ @GuruAnaerobic and others using social media posts/tweets to market, enjoy while you can. FB used to allow for free mkting to your followers, now they limit. Instagram, owned by FB, do NOT allow links in your posts unless you pay.
2/ Make yourself less fragile by using social media to build your own email list while you can. Also, use like-minded social media contacts to SHARE the lists you build since you do not have enough products to fully monetize your list.
3/ While like-minded people can retweet posts, building your email list is a MEDIA ASSET that can be leveraged in many ways. Owning your media when marginal costs are near zero is a life changing paradigm shift.

The percentage of China-leaving businesses surveyed by quality control and supply chain auditor QIMA was 80% for American companies and 67% for those based in the European Union.
QIMA has more than just anecdotal evidence. Demand for their China-based audits dropped by 13% as mainland manufacturers are either losing their foreign clients faster due to costs associated with tariffs or are relocating manufacturing out of China to avoid those tariffs.
