Nobody asked me but the Prop 13 (no not that one) ballot initiative ballot to put much needed funding into CA public school facilities will be voted on in March. The "split roll" reform of 1978 Prop 13 (yes that one, the bad one) that decimated school funding is in November.
Just heard some analysts discuss how the March Prop 13 won't face much opposition b/c a) business lobby is typically in favor of bonds for schools b) it/they are saving their money to fight the "split roll" reform of old Prop 13 in Nov.
The 1978 Prop 13 essentially capped property tax increases on homeowners and businesses and in so doing gutted school spending, just as state's population started booming and the language etc needs in districts became vastly more complicated.
"Split roll" reform would preserved the tax cap on homeowners and small businesses but reform it for big businesses. latimes.com/california/sto…

It's a divide and conquer strategy that big business will fight tooth and nail.
Anyway, obviously the Presidential primary and general will occupy the vast majority of attention 😬😬😬

But there are very interesting and super important state and local ballot propositions that is good to start really getting a handle on.
Even baby steps to unwind some of 1978 Prop 13 is vital for school funding and for a more equitable state overall. Homeowners (like me!) should pay more given the vast amounts of equity that collectively they/we have accrued over past 30+ years.
