The 1143 DOJ alumni who were signatories to the @ProtctDemocracy letter condemning Trump and Barr related to the Roger Stone sentencing caught my eye, so I downloaded the .csv file and got to work - my MS in Statistics needed a workout.

The DOJ Rulebook for lawyers states:
“the rule of law depends on the evenhanded administration of justice”; its legal decisions “must be impartial and insulated from political influence”; and that DOJ's prosecutorial powers must be “exercised free from partisan consideration.”
On Sunday, Feb 16, 1143 DOJ alumni said that these rules had been "openly and repeatedly flouted" by Attorney General Barr and President Trump to give Stone preferential treatment during sentencing, and that this represents a "a grave threat to the fair administration of justice"
Who are these DOJ alumni? Statistics can help!
The average years of service for this group is 12.8, the median is 8 . The shortest term of service was under a year. The longest was 44 years, by Dennis Dimsey, who started under Nixon and retired under Obama.
These aren't old lefties. First of all, they worked for DOJ, hardly some squishy, kumbaya enterprise. Furthermore, 55% of the signatories hired in during a Republican administration. 223 of the signatories (almost 20%) were hired in under Reagan!
There's even an Eisenhower alum - Bob Pennoyer, who has since retired as a partner from that lefty law firm, Patterson Belknap, and Richard Medalie.

We have a 43 year veteran - Frederick Hess, who served under 9 Presidents before retiring (started under Johnson, retired under Obama), and whose highest DOJ title was "Office Director, Criminal Division."
Robert Blakey is a signatory, and what an extraordinary career. He spent 5 years at DOJ - hired in under Kennedy. Apparently he drafted the RICO act; the guy knows organized crime. He's also argued on behalf of anti-abortionists, so he's no liberal softie.

Astonishingly, two of the signatories were hired in under Trump. @SomilBTrivedi lasted a year. He's now working @ACLU, and on the board of @innocencetexas.

Another lawyer who hired in under Trump is @nikhelsus. Like @somilbTrivedi, he lasted a year. He's now a senior counsel @crewcrew. The guy wants ethics in Washington.

The signatories are an accomplished, experienced and serious lot, who include:
@kokanovich (7 years DOJ)
@Mimirocah1 (17 yrs)
@mrbromwich (11yrs),
@renato_mariotti (9yrs),
@JillWineBanks (5yrs),
@rossi4va (27yrs),
@SinesDeborah (33 yrs)
@jostonjustice (37 yrs)
A quarter of the signatories had at least 20 years of experience at DOJ. 11% had at least 30 years at DOJ. There were 11 signatories with 40 or more years at DOJ!
That there are so many DOJ alumni raising alarms about Barr/Trump so quickly is astonishing. When a similar letter was signed last year by former US prosecutors, it began with a fraction of the signatories as this letter, but the numbers added up quickly.

I'll follow the updates from @protctdemocracy and publish any further findings. And if anyone sees any regrettable errors or interesting omissions, please let me know!
@protctdemocracy 117 of the signatories have served under Trump -- that's over 10%.
