Catching up with the politics of today and this is where I'm up to. Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Three female Labour party leadership hopefuls sign a pledge stating that women who believe in women's sex specific rights should be expelled from the party. Women who campaign for
women's sex specific rights can now consider themselves part of a 'hate group.' My goodness.

@RLong_Bailey states on the telly that she will make utilising the single sex exemptions illegal. She will abolish women only refuges. Except wait. Now she is saying she wants to keep
@RLong_Bailey the single sex exemptions. So does @RLong_Bailey wish to dismantle the Equality Act or doesn't she? And more importantly, is she going to expel herself from the Labour Party for now wanting to keep the very same exemptions she wanted to abolish just days ago?

Next up we have
@RLong_Bailey the bold statement from @DawnButlerBrent that babies are born without a sex. I have had three babies and I must admit this is news to me. I wonder how Dawn imagines babies are made?

Aaaanyway, as well as babies being entirely sexless, Dawn doesn't now think trans women should
@RLong_Bailey @DawnButlerBrent be in women's prisons. Presumably because they are the wrong sex. Except they were born without a sex. So when did they acquire their sex? I am more confused by the day.

I will take a wild stab and say there is a reason for that. Something to do with the sex he was born with.

Ah yes. Male people are female people if they say so. Except there's no such thing as biological sex. Women have no rights under law at all, while at the same time single sex exemptions must be upheld. Equality for all!

I just don't accept this. Murray *is* male. Everybody knows it, everybody can see it. I won't be gaslit - not by trans activists and not by the judiciary.

Recognising who is male and who is female is necessary for all kinds of social and political reasons. You can't sack us all.
The idea that someone is quite literally neither male nor female because they identify as non binary is just not true. It is pure fiction.

I can, and will, say that out loud. I'll say it on Twitter, and I'll say it in public. I'll say it from a police cell if I have to.

My take on the election result, for what it's worth, has taken up until now to formulate.

1. Because I am so so devastated by the result.

2. Because I had to go to the council for an interview about my housing benefit.

This is because I am an actual poor. A single parent on
a low, self employed income. This means I get some help towards my rent. But this comes with incessant reviews and demands to see bank statements going back months and constant mistakes made so the benefit gets stopped, which then stops all the other benefits, and means I am
without income. Which is so deeply stressful I am on edge whenever the postman puts anything through the bloody letter box.

So you can imagine I was so desperate - like many others - for a government that would implement decent socialist values and improve the lives of women

The attempt to paint women who think his actions constitute a sinister + sackable offence as "homophobic," as though this
@NSPCC has anything to do with who he chooses to love, or have sex with, is deeply cynical.

I agree that people are entitled to a private life. I accept that people are allowed to like what they like as long as everyone involved is an enthusiastically consenting adult.

But filming
@NSPCC oneself masturbating in the toilets of a childrens charity, wearing fetish gear, crosses a deep red line that has nothing whatsoever to do with sexual orientation.

Today's march in Hong Kong is a textbook example of why "violent" and "peaceful" protests are not categories you can meaningfully use here. Something like a hundred thousand people attempted to march. They got a letter of no objection, planned the route, all to no avail
Since August, we've seen the same tactic applied against all peaceful marches. The police step on their tail, either by unilaterally declaring them over hours before the allowed time, or by firing tear gas or pepper spray over some manufactured pretext. They try to draw a foul.
The police are obviously not scared for their safety. Thousands of people filed past small groups of cops today. But the police use the threat of tear gas, pepper spray, and arrest as punishment. I saw police threaten to raise the blue flag because they were being called names

A thread on the #Labour Labour Party's #BroadbandForAll policy. There are three elements: 1; #zero price #freebroadband, (2) #Nationalisation and (3) #monopoly.
Zero Price. One argument for zero price is that there are positive externalities and network effects for bringing everybody to the same high level service. A second is And that leaving poorer citizens and lower margin business behind is less inclusive.
Clearly charging those who can afford would make it less costly to the taxpayer, and be less regressive, but it is messy. But surely over time that would emerge? And behavioural insights might help design 100% take up with mostly positive pricing.

The worst thing Labour supporters like Owen can do at the #EUElections2019 is lecture and patronise Remain voters.

-203 Labour MPs voted for a #PeoplesVote in parliament
-34 Labour candidates have signed the @Remain_Labour pledge.

- The NEC decision confirms that backing a #PeoplesVote is an 'option', but did not commit to it unambiguously.

#Remain campaigners have every reason to be frustrated. But instead of attacking them (as Owen does), we need to convince them to stick with Labour

(Thread) To all @UKLabour candidates in the upcoming May local elections:

Unfortunately I will not be able to vote for you as a representative of the Labour Party; this is despite having been a #Labour voter myself in the past. Please allow me to explain briefly my reasons why.
After the sacking of Owen Smith, I cannot vote for @UKLabour in any shape or form at the moment due to Jeremy Corybn's approach towards #Brexit which I view as highly undemocratic and contradictory to what the Labour party is meant to stand for ("for the many, not the few"?).
The attitude towards #Brexit by @jeremycorbyn and other hardcore Brexiteers like him really is now bordering on the fascist, something I find deeply disturbing. It seems that dissenters are being crushed.
