[No one can fight an endless war with limited weapons]

1/ Unfortunately, this piece appeals to identity politics & loses touch with reality in #HK, especially #HKGov's messy mishandling over the past few weeks. It's #quarantine rule is entirely toothless. time.com/5784258/hong-k…

2/ Though people returned from #China are required to be quarantined, they can actually leave home during 14-day incubation. Although inflected with #COVID19, a Wuhan couple were also found fled from hospital to escape from quarantine.

3/ All these mean the concern over community spread is real. And concerns grow when our adjacent province, Guangdong, is now the second hardest-hit after Hubei. Don’t forget, over 80 cities in #China have already been sealed to stop the virus spread.

4/ As #HKGov refuses to seal the border, the burden now shifts to shop holders. Once customers are found inflected, stores are forced to close for weeks. Restaurant owners complained that they face the twin blows to their income and reputation.

5/ More importantly, we have to face the fact that our limited mask stocks can’t support an endless battle. Masks for medics can only last for 1 month, while some only have 5-day stocks. Though working in a highly contagious environment, each nurse can only use 2 masks a day.

6/ Worse still, their inflection or deaths won’t be coved by insurance if they use any donated or self-prepared masks.
Therefore, the demand for border shutdown is not a question of us & them, but a matter of life & death.

7/ With limited weapons, the whole city is now forced to fight a risky war on #coronavirus with our hands tied.
