Edinburgh Place is full for the #HK rally in solidarity w #Uighurs . In our nearly 800 protests since 6/9, this is only the 3rd to stand for others. There was a small 1 at CUHK for Uighur uni pres rumored sentenced to death & 1 for Catalunya.

Great to see the #EastTurkestan & #Tibet flags flying at the #HK solidarity rally for #Uighurs. Our fate is tied to theirs. We all have to fight together for our freedom & our rights.

Free #IlhamTohti , Free All Political Prisoners at #HK rally for #Uighurs . Ilham just received EU parliament’s #SakharovPrize this week. He’s serving life in prison in China on the entirely false charge of ‘separatism’. His daughter @JewherIlham accepted the award on his behalf.

Crowd at #HK solidarity rally for #Uighurs speckled w #EastTurkestan flags & posters of @MesutOzil1088 who recently expressed his solidarity w Uighurs & bemoaned the fact that so few Muslims have stood up for their fellow Muslims in Xinjiang.

#HongKong stands w #Tibetans & #Uighurs. & now at the end of 2019, we should remember all the peoples who’ve fought for their rights: Algerians, Sudanese, Venezuelans, Chileans, Lebanese, Iraqis, Iranians, French & many more. We stand together w all these sisters & brothers.

Chan Ho-tin, former head of banned #HK National Party, speaks at #HK #Uighur solidarity rally. #CCP has so demonized all in HK,Tibet,Xinjiang,Taiwan advocating real autonomy, self-determination or independence, it obscures the real debates on these issues among all these peoples.

#CCP also uses the blanket ‘separatist’ label to smear anyone who stands up for their people. Examples include #IlhamTohti who argued for real dialogue btw Hans & #Uighurs & @joshuawongcf who advocates self-determination (not independence) for #HK people.

In cracking down on any expression of separate identity #CCP reveals deep lack of confidence in its ability to make these peoples want to belong to PRC & promotes #HK, #Tibet, #Taiwan & #Uighur nationalism. Our identity as separate peoples increases as #CCP oppresses us.

Of course, by far the worst situation right now is that of #Uighurs: a million in entirely extrajudicial concentration camps; blanket, extremely intrusive surveillance in Xinjiang much worse than in China. What #CCP hopes to achieve & is committing right now is cultural genocide.
