When a foreign power is reportedly attacking our ability to choose our own leaders and a candidate (now the incumbent!) and his copartisans are openly facilitating the attack, the degree to which they’re also backchanneling with the foreign power is not the most important issue.
What’s most important is that Trump and his copartisans are facilitating the attack rather than defending the US. Denying the facts, attacking civil servants as deep state partisans, signaling to the foreign power that it won’t face consequences so long as Trump wins...
...that’s where chaos is sown and remaining solidarity within our political system is broken, and it none of it requires secret backchannels. If there’s a way to avoid getting fixated on the latter this time around and to deal w what’s out in the open, that’d be good.
