I was appalled to read the eulogy published for R.K. Pachauri in The Wire on Feb 17th by Prem Shankar Jha that did not once reference Pachauri’s record of sexually harassment in his time at TERI.
In a post-#MeToo era, when feminist activists and groups have repeatedly demanded that we as society stand behind survivors, and stop making excuses for the predatory behaviour of the “male genius”
A rightful accounting of Pachauri’s life should emphasize how his actions hindered women’s professional advancement in science and created a hostile and fearful environment at TERI
Prem Shankar Jha’s blatantly biased defense of RK Pachauri’s character (going as far back as 2015) does not seem up to the task.
