Health secretary Matt Hancock telling Marr about public role in helping Coronavirus containment...

Also said that some No Deal Brexit stockpiles were being redeployed to coronavirus contingencies...
...rather confirms seriousness of no deal worst case scenarios...

But also raises q about whether such stockpiles deemed necessary for No Deal contingency last year also be needed for No Trade Deal at year end.

Rather depends on businesses, freight, customs, border being ready.
Govt position is there can’t now be a No Deal because the PM got a deal... but absolute avoidance of some of the scenarios they had to plan for relies on preparation, construction, recruitment etc that is yet to happen.

Occurred at same time as PM presser here. Everyone not stockpiling, then thinks everyone else is, so thinks they have to buy it.
Also see the viral clip on pasta from Italy too. Hey presto pics of empty shelves this eve.

But not a supply issue - it’s demand has spiked suddenly beyond expectations. Australia especially is self sufficient in toilet roll.

Supermarkets now adjusting to Xmas levels of demand.
This is all standard behavioural finance, herd mentality, prospect theory.

I’d say clearer supply issues on hand gel, also made broader mass of people sensitive to fact early movers appeared to “win”.

Way to deal with this is to show plentiful supply:
