Some candidates really want stability in their new adventure, and so counterpositioning against risky funded startups is a not-totally-unreasonable tact to take.
I will note, on the merits, that the supermajority of engineers are actually *not* paid by investor money or debt but rather by the fountains of cash shooting off of well-managed software-adjacent businesses, but many of those businesses have not started hiring remotely yet.

All sophisticated markets rely on their being a protocol for “I want to do this deal, but I do not have authority to do the deal, but I forecast having the authority to do the deal, and you should move forward while understanding you have no formal recourse if it doesn’t happen.”
A maddening fact of these markets is that the protocol is not necessarily equally accessible to all market participants, and sometimes people fail to have a meeting of the minds on whether they’re engaging in it or not.
One of the brilliant innovations YC has is their handshake protocol, where they formalize “A handshake needs three elements: a valuation, a price, and a written commitment. If you will not offer that, you are not shaking hands. If shake and reneg, you shall incur our displeasure”

Yep. I'd add that, for those able to do it, projecting normalcy helps to provide anchors to others who have heightened need for it at present.

(And some of the social institutions they'd normally get it from are extremely adversely impacted.)
One of my sharpest memories from 2011 was getting a call from the bank branch manager early on Saturday morning after the earthquake on Friday.

He was calling every business his branch banked to let them know, among other things, it'd be open exactly on time on Monday morning.
(The other thing he said was approximately "I know you have clients in Tokyo [which was severely affected by the earthquake] and if you need money, come on by, I can get it for you and we can [figure out the paperwork] later.")

It’s been fascinating awareness of this moving around networks in real time, with knowledge of a global risk being available but unevenly distributed until it hit the public consciousness everywhere almost simultaneously.
The same observation could be made with regards to asset prices, by the way.
Michael Lewis is going to have to write a new book, isn’t he.

2-I find that it helps a lot to understand WHY I struggle to write. This graphic was the first thing that really helped me understand why writing my dissertation, in particular, was SUPER difficult. So reasons:
3-Writing your dissertation or a manuscript is hard because no one has ever been where you are. No one has ever written about it in the way you're going to. It's literally the edge of our collective knowledge or else you wouldn't be writing it. mymodernmet.com/phd-infographi…

Okay, so today we're not going to do the flag thread, because this one is _really huge_. Today, we're going to talk about how I'm going to do it, and what that means.
My normal resource for this is straight up looking at these things on wikipedia, and that's a great, useful resource but contributed by fans and enthusiasts.

It also presents a problem of scale.
Some states-and-territories have a tiny number of city flags; some have an ENORMOUS number. Obviously. I mean, Wyoming has two major cities! Some places that have like, more people than Iceland, have more cities!

Python is a high level language that runs bytecode in its virtual machine.
Everything is an object.
It supports OOP up to multiple inheritance and functional programming.
Typing is polymorphic - duck typing is preferred
A Python script is a file with a name like name.py - we indent at four spaces (it matters), comments (after #) don't execute - and is typically written like:
