While I believe that we should celebrate women everyday, it’s always special to have one whole day dedicated to recognize their profound impact on our lives.

Before #InternationalWomensDay2020 ends, I’d like to pay my respects to 4 remarkable women. #SheInspiresUs Thread:
Ahilyabai Holkar (1725-1775)

Maratha Queen. Mother of Hindu Renaissance. Fearless Warrior. Skilled Administrator. Profound Dharmic.

She single-handedly led armies into battle, regained lost territory, rebuilt temples plundered, desecrated, & destroyed by Islamic invaders (1/n)
And laid the foundation for a prosperous kingdom. She lived her life based on an important Hindu belief- to never give up, to continue rebuilding that which is destroyed, & to continue going eternally.

Her contribution gave new energy to the revival of the of this land. (2/n)
Dr. (Mrs.) Y G Parthasarathy (1925-2019)

Reeling from the hangover of a 200 year long British rule, Madras, the capital of the erstwhile Madras Presidency had hundreds of Convent schools even after independence that were considered the Crème de la crème of education. (3/n)
In the late 1950s, Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy was outraged when her two sons who were studying in the all boys Don Bosco School were sent back home. Their crime? They distributed Prasādam from the Ganesh Chaturthi pooja observed at home earlier in the morning. (4/n)
She channeled all her outrage to do something ingenious. She warned & challenged all the convent missionaries in Madras that they she’ll start her own school to educate students. A school that would impart outstanding modern education with Dharmic thought & philosophy. (5/n)
Thus came about the founding of the Padma Seshadri Group of Schools (PSBB), which changed the face of education in Madras & dethroned the oligopoly of the convents to below average shadows of their former glory. (6/n)
Around the same time, two other schools with a similar vision & mission were founded in Madras- Vidya Mandir (VMM) & Pennathur Subramaniya Senior (PS Senior). Together PSBB, VMM, & PS Senior produced the Crème de la crème students in post independent India. (7/n)
She made Yoga, Vedic Heritage, Moral Science, Classical Dance & Music, General Knowledge & Lateral Thinking compulsory subjects in school at a time when the Left has taken over the education system in India. (8/n)
My father, my sister, & I went to PSBB. We were fortunate to have Dr. (Mrs). YGP as our family friend, mentor, & guide. Her impact on my life has been profound & meaningful. She taught her students shlokas from the Vedas, Upanishads, & Puranas, and as well as Shakespeare. (9/n)
She has personally overseen my growth & provided me with all the support & nurturing that I needed growing up. I will forever remain indebted to her. (10/n)
Meenakshi Jain

Because modern India desperately needed an intellectual who’d destroy years of propaganda & twisted history generated & nurtured by Indians themselves to divorce future generations of Indians from their 5000+ years of Indic philosophy & sense of belonging. (11/n)
Because it was time for Indians to look back and analyze our past to not only introspect on our greatness but also to figure out where we went wrong along the way.

Because we needed someone to speak to truth to power and reclaim what is rightfully ours. (12/n)
Because post-independence India needed its own version of Ahilyabai. Because it was time to prove that the “Indian Right” can have stellar academics, historians, and philosophers.

Meenakshi’s books:
• Rajah-Moonje Pact: Documents On A Forgotten Chapter Of Indian History (13/n)
• The India They Saw
• Rama and Ayodhya
• Sati: Evangelicals, Baptist Missionaries, and the Changing Colonial Discourse
• The Battle for Rama: Case of the Temple at Ayodhya
• Flight of Deities and Rebirth of Temples: Episodes from Indian History (14/n)
My mother

Mothers epitomize selfless love. They are the architects of the society, and they have the unique power to shape the minds of the future.

They absorb all our pains and turmoils, and excuse limitless love and strength.

Because they are. We are. (N/n)
