Every #internationalwomensday I see lots of posts about uplifting women and especially about raising kick-ass women. But, are we raising our boys to be supportive partners? #IWD2020
This is primarily a hetero question because it’s my hetero sisters I see struggling the most with balancing it all. #IWD2020
This isn’t yet another thing mothers need to be responsible for, this is for the DADS. We expect way too little of dads, but this is on THEM. Dads, raise sons who can care for themselves, who can care for others. #IWD2020
Dads, make sure they see you do the grocery shopping, making dinner, doing laundry, sweeping floors. And then make your sons do those things with you. And make it a regular thing. #IWD2020
Dads, take your kids to appointments, know their shoe sizes and when they need new ones. Arrange the play dates and the birthday parties, be the primary contact with the school, organize sports activities and bring the snacks. And don’t expect a medal for any of it. #IWD2020
Dads, if you’re not doing this kind of labour, not showing this equality at home, you’re not raising the men your daughters will need. #IWD2020
Because (and again, hetero-speaking) we’re all focused on raising these kick-ass women, but we’ll hobble them if we don’t also raise kick-ass men who understand what being a truly supportive partner means. #IWD2020
And of course, no one needs a partner to be amazing, but holy shit, it’s a lot easier to share the load.
