Let's not ever forget that the Republican president's first, second, third, and fourth instinct to a global pandemic that threatened the welfare of U.S. citizen was to cover it up to protect his numbers, and every Republican official's instinct was to help him try.
And let's never forget that the only reason they couldn't quite manage a cover-up is because the virus, being a virus, also threatened them, and wealthy people, and wealth itself.

Imagine if media were still calling COVID19 "controversial" as in "both political parties engaged inflammatory rhetoric today as Democratic lawmakers claimed the controversial COVID19 is a real virus that poses real dangers, but Republicans said it was a hoax."

.... if COVID19 weren't affecting lawmakers, and wealthy people, and wealth, they'd probably STILL be saying it was a hoax. And media would probably still be doing the same false equivalency "both sides" game

Republicans haven't changed really. Cover-up was the instinct for Republicans back when a deadly virus was ravaging people who "didn't matter."
