So, Kodak is weird. And a particular way they are weird has to do with the
International Fixed Calendar, as developed by Moses Cotsworth in 1902.
It's a calendar designed to be maximally compatible with the standard Gregorian while also fixing many of the problems of it.

So it's a 13-month calendar. All the standard English months plus the month of Sol, inserted between June and July.
All months are 4-weeks long, and start on a Sunday.

So this has the nice property that a given date is always the same day of the week. January 8th is a Sunday, and is always a Sunday no matter what year it is, or if it's a leap year, or anything.

Aha, now I understand. There's no way to turn off MCAS without turning off the electric trim system altogether. You can't remove it from the loop.

That's crazy.

And, of course, Boeing literally didn't tell anyone that. So the Ethiopian pilots turned the trim system back on when they thought they had recovered from the runaway trim situation...at 1500 feet. MCAS was restored to the loop, was still getting bad data from the AoA vane...

...and MCAS immediately dropped the nose by more than two degrees. Flight simulators have shown that produces rates in recovery of over 6,000 feet per minute. At 1500 feet, you're doomed at that rate of descent. You can't recover the airplane from that attitude in 15 seconds.
