So the airport is an apocalyptic nightmare, and while I was looking forward to weathering this alone, hundreds of miles from Chicago and human society I actually gave up during boarding and now I’m home with no luggage and no hope of a vacation for year 4, and this is fine.
I’m totally fine right now.
For hells’ sakes, if your loved ones aren’t at their planned destination to sit this out now, find a way to get them there like, tomorrow. This was like a scene from a horror movie.

The reason I didn’t board was the absolute nonchalance of the other passengers. People were joking about the virus, laughing it off, and not following any best practices to stay clean and isolated. It really lowered my expectations and confidence.
I made a judgement call that even though I was headed somewhere very remote to be isolated for a while, the travel alone was unacceptably unsafe and everyone but the airline and airport staff was being totally cavalier.
