If the decision is taken to do this it’s because the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Advisor deem it to be absolutely essential and critical to protect health.

It will have huge ramifications for people’s day to day life with practical implications but also wide-ranging and longterm impacts on mental health and wellbeing.
I know many others including specialist organisations and charities in those fields will be working through what can be done to counter that.
Staying connected to family/friends digitally could become absolutely essential.
So, if you have elderly family/friends who might be affected by this, why not take ten minutes today to make sure they are confident in using @Apple FaceTime, @Skype & other video calling platforms
✴️I know it sounds really trivial - but do this now, and practice a call or two today.
It won’t change the magnitude or take away the worry of all this - but it’s something small we could all do today. #coronavirusuk
☎️And for those who smartphones really not possible - let’s get telephone trees organised amongst social networks now: ensuring people don’t get calls from same people each day (mix it up). But organise now and test so know numbers work.

Tory social media team want to be seen as controversial and disruptive, tearing up the rules of the game etc - it’s the Trumpian playbook. They knew it would create outrage and generate lots of process stories today
And I think they were planning on basis Johnson would perform badly in the debate (he did), and they’d much rather the commentariat were talking about a twitter process story today than real issues covered in the debate where Johnson is weak

"I'm never going to vote again. Never. You've all had it for me. Even in another referendum I just won't vote and I've always voted." This was said to me yesterday when I was out canvassing, and it reflects the sentiment of many, many doorstep conversations in recent weeks.
That sentiment has been expressed to me by people who voted Leave in 2016 AND by people who voted Remain in 2016: people are thoroughly frustrated, hacked off with politics. People are absolutely fed-up with the Brexit process: our politics cannot go on like this.

I was in panel discussion at Christ University today on 'What is India's identity? Is it changing?'

I told India's primary identity is Hindu identity. A large section of audience gasped with shock as though I said something offensive. Some felt I was 'extreme'!
The kind of setback Hindus have faced in the narrative war is unbelievable and most unfortunate. It's a pity that we can't even call ourselves Hindu unapologetically.

Don't know how many decades of work is necessary to change this. Most important war to win is narrative war.
The idea that we became a new nation in 1947 & our Constitution is what makes us plural is the regular BS that our kids are fed with.

Unless Hindus realise that India is plural because India is majority Hindu & not just because of a Constitution, we won't go anywhere.
