Some presidents’ reputations get better after they leave office. @realDonaldTrump’s won’t. Once people no longer have a stake in defending him, even more stories about his incompetence and derangement will come out.
No one’s going to be saying, he made some mistakes, but he was a good and well-intentioned man. No one’s going to be saying that further in-depth research shows that he actually knew what he was doing.
The way people who worked for him will try to salvage their reputations will be by saying, look, I tried my best but he didn’t listen or I thought he did but then he did such-and-so, and so what else could I do?
