This update from @bigcommerce is atrocious. Equating WFH with "shutting down" is 🤯. (From theamericangenius.com/business-news/…)
Jesus, @GoDaddy, what the fuck are you doing? (Also via theamericangenius.com/business-news/…).
If you need gloves and masks to WORK AT YOUR DESK, the work environment is not safe. Send people home for fucks sake.
At @PwC, they did a webcast as late as Wednesday with a doctor that told everyone "it's safe to fly to client sites". The concern is all about how they might lose business if they're unable to get to clients and sell them in person.
At Apple Montessori schools in Hoboken, NJ they're still requiring teachers to come into HQ "because they're still being paid", even if the schools have been closed, and there are no kids. Maybe @RaviBhalla can help convince Hoboken businesses that this is A TERRIBLE IDEA.
UPDATE: @PwC will now go WFH for 2 weeks after an employee in the NYC office tested positive. Said employee was in the office over 4 days, across 10 floors. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE AN OUTBREAK TO SHUT DOWN FFS!!
Report: @NETAPORTER in Clifton, NJ is still making digital workers come to the office while they "monitor" the situation. Don't like that? Use your own paid time off. HR stonewalling requests.
Report: @ConstantContact is now allowing all EXECUTIVES to work from home, but support agents (who could WFH) are told to stay in their call centers but practice social distancing. Horrendous.
Report: @websteru is following @LifeAtPurdue by sending classes online, but still requiring WFH-capable staff to come into the office ☠️
Report: @Slalom is going with the "it's optional" bullshit in SoCal (except if the customer wants in-person, then no) - "so any SOTOs, Quarterlies, coffee talks, team outings are still going to be supported and happen as planned" ☠️
Report: "Lockheed Martin in Denver has had confirmed cases in the office but is refusing to let anyone work from home. It's a security-clearance lab too so it hasn't been cleaned" 🦠☠️
Report: "DXC technology in Costa Rica. We are a service desk and are fully capable of answering calls and web tickets at home. President just declared emergency state in the country and we’re still here having to grab public transportation and coming into the office."
Report: @HUGOBOSS in NYC HQ is merely "suggesting" that employees stay home, but: "Gf being 'urged' to come in tomorrow and Wednesday. Gf is afraid of being fired during the downturn if she’s not compliant now. I hope there will be eventual litigation."
Report: @Citibank's Tucson call center is running at 120% capacity, not even enough desks for everyone, no dividers between desks, but no action from management to move to WFH.
Report: @Augustana_IL is also keeping office staff on campus in offices OR CUBICLES while students and donors are to be protected. Cool cool.
Report: @CrowdStrike still has their Sunnyvale office open. Meanwhile, their website brags that BREACHES STOP HERE. Seems like INFECTIONS START HERE is a better motto at the moment.
Report: @ReliableCntrls would like software development staff to know that hey, fuck this pandemic, it's "business activities as we always have" because who knows how long this will take??
Report: Fucking Bloomberg is still having people who could WFH come to the office in New York. How about starting at home @MikeBloomberg with some responsibility?
Report: @vcs_software isn't even letting parents with kids out of school WFH, despite being perfectly capable of doing so, because it would be a "hardship" for the company if they did so. And then there's this:
Report: @SutherlandCorp is oh-so-concerned with the health of their staff who could WFH that they'll force them to come to the office, but maybe clean a little extra and hand out some sanitizer gel and wipes. Scott Savage's savage notice attached.
UPDATE: @brandedonline says that employees are now authorized to work from home. I have removed the earlier report about WFH not being an option at the company.
Reminder: All of these reports are submitted by employees or family of employees. If your company is mentioned, your employees or the family of your employees believe they're not legitimately allowed to WFH when they could. Fix that, then contact me to have the notice removed 👍
Reminder 2: If I update or remove a notice on behalf of a company request, but you're an employee at said company, and you know the update is bullshit, please ALSO let me know about that, and I will reinstate the blast.
This thread will continue today. I've gotten a HUGE NUMBER of new reports. Companies are clearly not getting it yet, executives are still downplaying the risks, and people who totally could WFH are being asked to come to the office.
If you have a report, send it to corona-reports@hey.com and include Rabid49 in the subject. Be clear about what's OK for me to publish in this thread, such that you protect your anonymity. Including company announcements and other supporting documentation is 👍.
Report: @paypal in Ireland won't send people home until there's a confirmed case in their specific building. Reminder that by the time someone is showing symptoms, they've likely been infecting others for days and days.
Report: @zalando and @ZalandoTech is asking people who "feel like they want to work from home" to fill out a home to their manager and then their request will be "considered". Yeah, because what we need right now is five layers of paperwork to do what EVERYONE SHOULD BE DOING.
Update: @scribd is now mandatory WFH 👏🎉
Report: @restorationhard lists their first core value as People, saying "We value team players, people who are more concerned with what's right rather than who's right". But the CEO is MIA on corona and everyone is still forced to go into the office 🖌☠️
Report: @UnitedHealthGrp is refusing to let office staff that could WFH do so because "this is a dynamic situation" and their presence is the office is "essential" (it is not). Repeated requests to WFH have been denied.
Report: @BankofAmerica is rationing the permission slips to work from home amongst tech workers. Employees who feel like their work could be done from home are denied the opportunity to do so. No general mandate to WFH.
Report: @viralnationinc is giving so far just letting people work from home yesterday and today, because, you know, the virus will surely be gone by tomorrow, right? RIGHT? This is a marketing agency where people can indeed WFH.
Report: @shure is following that same bullshit "talk to your manager / it's their discretion to allow WFH requests" for people who could WFH. The only company-wide guidance is DON'T TALK ABOUT THE PANDEMIC ON SOCIAL MEDIA. You can't silence a virus, you numbskulls.
Report: @fisglobal is also playing the "talk to your manager" game, and managers are complaining about how many people wants to WFH. Even though all software engineers could. You need to show special circumstances to get permission.
Report: @SBM_News is taking the stance that “nobody is sick, and if anyone gets sick we’ll surely allow work from home then”. How many times do we need to see this policy turn into OH, PERSON GOT SICK, SO NOW WE CLOSE before that's retired?
Report: @SSU_1961 continues to ask IT support staff that could WFH to report to the office, despite San Francisco being on lockdown just 50 miles away. Even as classes are transitioning to remote.
Update: @fedex is now letting HQ workers WFH until March 27th, and will then reevaluate every two weeks. Seems ludicrously optimistic to me that this is done in two weeks, but I'm not being picky at this time. Important thing is WFH is happening! 👏🎉
Report: Another confirmation that @verizon and @verizonconnect is not letting call-center employees who could WFH do so, despite public CEO statements saying they're encouraging WFH. Employees afraid to speak up and afraid for their lives.
Report: @charlesschwab is not letting software engineers work from home, despite all plumbing being in place to do so. Employees are simply forced to come to the office, no explanation given.
Report: @macys is forcing HR workers in Colleague Support who could do WFH to come into the office, despite underlying health conditions.
Report: @MicroStrategy needs everyone in the HQ because "we are collectively more productive working in our corporate offices". They're waiting for a LEGAL DIRECTION TO CLOSE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES. Apparently White House direction is not enough.
Report: @paccar is forcing engineers in their Kenworth division office in KIRKLAND, WA(!!!) to come to the office under the pretext "we don't have enough laptops" for WFH, even for those who have laptops. Managers saying "this is all an overreaction".
Report: Serrf in LA is forcing everyone into the office to make websites. Some are bringing their kids because they have no other choice. serrf.com
Report: @MicroStrategy's CEO sent out an email to all employees doing a little back-of-the-envelope math about why corona is actually not a big deal at all, and everyone should quit freaking out (and come into the office and get to work!!)
Report: @Ask_Spectrum is requiring all employees in the St Louis office to come in, even as an employee there is already out for a pending corona test.
Report: @GDElectricBoat is keeping thousands of engineers in the office in Connecticut and Rhode Island who could WFH. To be granted permission to WFH, you have to have been in contact with a CONFIRMED case of COVID-19. All infrastructure ready for WFH.
Report: @ThermoFisher is requiring everyone to come into the office because they have a branch working on healthcare equipment. Because needlessly exposing people who aren't doing that work is just more fair, you know?
Report: Care New England is denying all administrative and non-clinical staff that would work from home the privilege to do so. At first, a manager's approval could sidestep this. Now "only by exception granted by the corporate VP of HR". carenewengland.org
Report: @honda's American HQ in Torrance, CA is requiring everyone to come into the office. And vendors must still come to deliver presentations in person. As reporter says: "This is a company that’s global and has enterprise grade AV/video conferencing facilities".
