Ingredients:

• Isopropyl alcohol 99.8%
• Hydrogen peroxide 3%
• Glycerol 98%
• Sterile water
• Essential oil for fragrance (only if you need it)

You should be able to find them at a pharmacy or scientific equipment store.
3/n Note:

• Glycerol is used as a humectant to keep skin soft
• Hydrogen peroxide is used to inactivate contaminating bacterial spores in the solution and is not an active substance for hand antisepsis.
4/n Ratios to prepare 1000ml of sanitiser:

750 ml - Isopropyl alcohol
40 ml - Hydrogen peroxide
14 ml - Glycerol
196 ml - Sterile water
2 drops of essential oil if you need fragrance
5/n Apparatus I used:

Graduated cylinder 1000ml
Glass bottle 1000ml
Funnel
Pasteur Pipette
Alcoholometer to control the alcohol concentration of the final solution
6/n Tips:
• Please deep cleanse your hands with soap
• Wipe surfaces with disinfectant
• Rinse all apparatus in Isopropyl alcohol before you begin the preparation
• WARNING: undiluted Isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable and may ignite at temperatures as low as 17.5°C

So I’m hearing many myths about #COVID-19 and would like to quickly clear the record.

Coronavirus will go away in Sumer months.

Wrong. Previous pandemics didn’t follow weather patterns plus as we enter summer, there will be winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Virus is global.
Myth #2: In summer, the virus will spread more due to mosquito bites.

Wrong. This infection is spread via respiratory droplets, not blood. Mosquitos don’t increase spread.
Myth #3: If you can hold your breath for ten seconds without discomfort, you don’t have COVID.

Wrong: Most young patients with Coronavirus will be able to hold their breaths for much longer than 10 seconds. And many elderly without the virus won’t be able to do it.

Here’s the thing. Years and years of fake news and sensationalist journalism and people panicking over dumb shit on Twitter made me think everyone was overreacting about Coronavirus and that I just needed to be cautious and sensible when going out. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
Living in the UK, where nothing was being done about it, reinforced my belief that it wasn’t a big deal. But I’ve since remembered that the UK government are absolute idiots, so that argument doesn’t work anymore. I mean we’re talking about Boris fucking Johnson here.
Also, as someone with anxiety, I have to filter the news a little bit, and take it in small doses and with a large pinch of salt. So I don’t have a ton of news apps on my phone and wasn’t seeing the full extent of the crisis elsewhere. However, I was quietly keeping an eye on it.

For lots of people navigating working from home for a bit, I know it’s tricky!

I don’t always follow my own advice, but here are a few practices I try to implement myself and with my wee team of remote workers to help us keep things rolling smoothly:
1) Do not, I repeat, do not work from bed. Not even to check emails on your phone in the morning (guilty). Keeping a separate work space helps to not only prevent the overwhelm of work bleeding into personal space, but also helps you get in the zone for doing productive mahi.
2) If you don’t have a separate space to work from, or need to work from bed for any reason, try to establish a separate ritual for getting into work mode - it might be only to work once you’ve had your morning coffee or brushed your teeth, and to put the laptop away at X time.

@christianbaye13 & me have been thinking about the big differences in mortality rates so far during the corona outbreak in Europe. The differences in case-fatality rates are humongous. Italy has one of 6% while countries like Norway, Denmark & Germany have rates still close to 0.
Of course the rates will likely converge somewhat over time as the virus spreads and there are many effects in this. Division bias may play a role, as does the time since the outbreak.
However, we thought maybe there is something to learn in this in order to help to organize our lives in a way to minimize the risks for us and we pose to others. We picked up a striking data difference that @AndreasShrugged pointed out.

The city of Wuhan, China, where #COVIDー19 started, waited weeks before acknowledging human-to-human transmission and taking measures to control it. Wuhan thus experienced an out-of-control epidemic that overwhelmed the health care system.
Other cities in China watched Wuhan’s experience and imposed strict controls at a much earlier stage in their epidemic: They closed schools, sharply limited social contact, and traced and isolated cases and contacts. These early interventions dramatically slowed transmission.
These experiences, & historical parallels, like 1918 flu, show early and sustained imposition of measures to limit social contact will slow the epidemic. This is desirable for many reasons — fewer total people get infected in a slowly moving epidemic... bostonglobe.com/2020/03/11/opi…
