If you look at the lethality of CV, without protective measures it’s much like doubling cancer or heart disease to society. That’s just unimaginably awful. And we think of the future of CV as being unrestrained until there’s a vaccine. I disagree.
We are taking serious measures against the spread of the virus. And I do firmly believe that CV will be seasonally suppressed in the upcoming spring/summer/fall seasons, as do other similar viruses. We will endure terrible losses in this next month. But there is a light ahead.
The number of new cases will fall after this initial short term surge. We will have time after to gather ourselves and prepare for a resurgence in the fall/winter. What is critical is to appreciate how quickly we are learning about this virus and how to treat it.
Field results (not just research) have shown that chloronique and remdesivir are very effective in treating CV patients. And we are learning rapidly how to suppress the symptoms and shorten hospital stays.
The combined societal and medical efforts can and will alter the lethality of CV so that instead of being a new equivalent of cancer or heart disease, it’s a new equivalent of diabetes....or a particularly bad additional instance of flu.
And this is until a vaccine is available in 2021, which would ultimately eliminate CV. I say all this not to minimize, but because hope and perspective are critical in times of panic. I look at this realistic path I lay out, and I find comfort that while the worst is upon us,
a reprive is nearing as well in the next few months. And in that reprive we’ll learn that the resurgence that is certain at the end of the year will not be nearly as awful and disruptive as this one. So my advice is be safe, bunker down, be smart, and know that better days await.
