JUST IN: @MikeBloomberg announces plan to transfer the remaining $18 million in his defunct presidential campaign’s coffers to the @DNC — a money transfer that is permitted under federal campaign finance law. (1/)
The Bloomberg money will go to the DNC’s Battlegroujd Build Up program, which is funding offices and organizers in 12 states — AZ, GA, OH, FL, NH, NV, NC, MI, PA, TX, VA, WI. (2/)
“There was no comparable investment made by the DNC at this point during the 2016 presidential campaign cycle,” the @dnc notes. Bloomberg is also offering to transfer ownership of many of his former campaign’s field offices to Democratic state parties.
DNC Chair @TomPerez says “Bloomberg and his team are making good on their commitment to beating Donald Trump. This will help us invest in more organizers across the country to elect the next president and help Democrats win up and down the ballot.” (4/)
Remember, Bloomberg said repeatedly during his campaign that win or lose, he would devote $$ to defeating the president. (5/)
One other note: DNC says the Bloomberg transfer of $$ will “help accelerate the hiring pace” in swing states “including offering Mike Bloomberg 2020 organizing staff and those coming off other presidential primary campaigns the opportunity to be considered.” (6/6)
But one other important note: @MikeBloomberg’s original plan to launch a large independent entity to take on the president is over. Kaput. It’ll be the DNC and the nominee’s operation that takes the lead.
