There is no reason to think, in this case, that the Greeks are superior to the Italians.
Via @cubic_logic I learn that Greece also prohibited church services because of COVID19. Good. @PrimeministerGR @kmitsotakis As I argue here washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/… staying home is a kind of compassion for our community.

Is Our Fight Against Coronavirus Worse Than the Disease? nyti.ms/2J1v53h Excellent outline of hard trade-offs we face via @Yale @nytopinion @DrDavidKatz. It’s not just the trade-off between health and economics. A devastated economy itself has bad health effects.
Part of the problem is that politics also plays a role. Even if it were wisest from both a public health & an economic point of you to let the pandemic wash over us, how would Americans respond if we had battlefield triage conditions in our hospitals and people were turned away?
And if tens of thousands of people start getting sick and dying, because we let the pandemic wash over us, we might wind up both with an economic depression and with mass death. These are all tremendously difficult policy trade-offs that require practiced and careful modeling.

Let’s talk about what happens if you get COVID19 and recover. Are you immune to the disease? How long does the immunity last? And what does that mean for your life and for the public health and economy of our society? 1/
Probably as many as 40% of humans will be exposed to COVID19 over the next 2-3 years, judging from past pandemics. Not everyone will actually get it. Only some (probably <1.0%) of those who get it will die. The rest will recover. And, almost all of them will be immune. 2/
But we don’t know how long this immunity lasts. For some diseases (like polio or chickenpox), you are basically immune for the rest of your life. But for many others, that’s not the case. This is a complicated area in immunology. 3/

He rightly points out that we are making huge decisions with crappy data, and he is right that we should (immediately) put into place surveillance for COVID19. Many smart scientists are working full time to assemble such data and fill in holes in data we have. 2/
Given all the data uncertainties, reasonable estimates for the case fatality ratio (CFR) of COVID19 in the general U.S. population could be between 0.05% (half as deadly as the flu) to 1% (ten times as deadly as the flu), according to Ioannidis! That's a huge range. 3/

Oops had to attend a transgender awareness course at work today labelled “how not to be a terf”
It was given by a trans woman at the company focusing on gender equality and how to be a trans ally as the company has a strong transgender awareness policy.
1. Everyone in my area had to attend, they paid particular attention to us bame offering guidance and support so as not to offend our religious views. I of course stated unequivocal support and said “my thing is I’ll ask for your pronouns and then I’ll use them”
2. To be greeted with gasps from the other indians to which I told them in Hindi that should treat the trans as hijra and if in doubt to read the Gita and the teachings of Lord Krishna
