Well, it's official. I've been furloughed from my gaming job.

Our company is doing everything it can to avoid layoffs. As it is though, I'll be out of work until the casinos reopen.
Now relatively speaking, I'm pretty lucky.

I have savings and a 2nd full-time job as a political newswriter to fall back on, and my news team is giving me extra hours to help blunt the financial pain. This might even give me time to go back to Texas and see my wife.
But there are people hurting much, much worse than me. My apartment is full of people living paycheck to paycheck and I don't know what they're going to do.

It makes me sick.
I'd just like to give one more huge middle finger to all of the Trump sycophants who accused liberals of hoping the economy would crash to make Trump look bad.

None of us wanted this. None of us. Liberals have jobs too, you idiots.

The craziest part about @SenRickScott, @BenSasse, and @LindseyGrahamSC demanding the government shouldn't pay workers more in unemployment than they'd get from working, is that that's literally exactly what the government should do during a deadly pandemic.
Like, literally the single most effective way the government could enforce social distancing is if they paid people to sit home and do nothing, and paid them more than they would make by going out to their jobs.

Isn't that obvious?
It would be a good thing, not a bad thing, if the stimulus' unemployment benefits are so generous that businesses can afford to furlough workers that they couldn't otherwise.

Because it would end the outbreak faster, and let everyone go back to work sooner!

I'm not a defender of Bill Barr. And I think there's a good argument to be made that the DOJ was wrong to drop charges against the Russian troll farms.

But also, I don't think Barr's justification for why the DOJ cut and ran was entirely indefensible.
The problem was that Russian authorities were exploiting the due process inherent in the U.S. criminal justice system to try to expose in court *how* they were caught — which would give the Kremlin info on how our intelligence networks work, and how to evade them next time.
It was terrible optics for Barr's DOJ to drop the case, but we should appreciate they were in a no-win situation.

If they won't prosecute Concord, Russia will be emboldened to keep attacking our elections.

But if they had, the IC's practices and informants might be exposed.

Unfortunately I think Richard Burr has little incentive to resign.

He's already retiring in 2022. There will never be enough votes in the Senate to expel him. And he could rightly reason that the coronavirus news cycle is so chaotic people will forget about it by next week.
At the very least, Burr has a strong incentive to wait until July, when it's too late to schedule a special election, and see if things have cooled off by then.

If not, THEN he can resign, and his appointed GOP replacement can stay on until the regularly scheduled race in 2022.
(Help me out here #ElectionTwitter ... I think that's right but I'm not 100% versed in how special election scheduling law in NC works.)
