Not saying we shouldn't test but now we have more than 100,000 test kits and our docs are running out of PPE. Also, mass testing is great in theory, but BSL2 facilities don't grow on trees. These kits only work if we have the resources to run them.
To further clarify, I live and work in the Philippines. I admire what South Korea did and I would do that if we had as much money and resources. But we don't, and my colleagues are wearing trash bags for PPE. We need to put everything into the right context.
Even more context. My disagreement with WHO on this is very specific on testing for resource constrained settings. We still follow their evidence-based recommentations. People who have no appreciation of context are the much more dangerous than coronavirus.
Even the US has been forced to choose. South Korea experience is ideal but cannot be replicated by most. We cannot mass test at this time. Very few resource limited countries can. Let's get the PPEs to our healthcare workers. Focus. healthleadersmedia.com/clinical-care/…
