The orders represent the latest dramatic step government officials have taken to address the colossal public health crisis.

The orders are not an anomaly globally.

Californians are operating under a similar crackdown, as is Italy, which is under lockdown as the death toll Thursday surpassed that of China, where the virus originated.

1/ How many cases of COVID-19 are there in Texas?

It depends who you ask.

On Tuesday, Texas either had 800+ cases or less than 400.

It was either ranked 10 in the nation for cases or 21.

2/ On Tuesday evening, Texas launched a new system for reporting cases of COVID-19.

Texas health officials reported 34 cases in Dallas County on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the county reported 169 cases among its residents.

San Antonio mayor @Ron_Nirenberg has had his Voicemail machine on since Tuesday AM. He’s completely stopped responding to constituents, answering the phone, or generally responding to the #COVID19 crisis.
Businesses in #SanAntonio— esp restaurants— are seeing surrounding towns New Braunfels and Boerne close their businesses, yet they hear silence from our so-called leadership. Absent cohesive statewide policy from @GovAbbott, it looks like @Ron_Nirenberg has passed the buck too.
We need @ksatnews, @TexasStandard, @TPRSource, @TPRNews to get some teeth and press as to why a jurisdiction that has insisted upon swallowing up so many neighboring towns as they develop has shown zero policy leadership over their ever-expanding footprint!

I lived in Austin for 14 years and was born in El Paso, a Democratic stronghold. My birth certificate says "Texas" and my return address for years was "Texas".

Call me crazy, but I think, like Lloyd Doggett, I am "from" Texas.
As a reminder, as well, the majority of Texans are something *other* than non-Hispanic white. This formulation, where the only legitimate Texans are white, rural, and conservative means most Texans are not Texans. texastribune.org/2012/05/17/on-…
Nor is this just about Austin. The trap of assuming the only legitimate Texans are white and Republican means excluding Houston, Dallas, San Antonio — all which are reliably Democratic — from the defintion of "Texas".

I mean, the definition of "Texas" now excludes the Alamo!

Special attention for areas around:
