Last year we piloted a City Bike rental program. It was superb for travelers coming to visit #LdnOnt, and even for people who live here and haven't tried riding the TVP before. The bikes are A+ quality Breezer Downtowns, easy to ride and operate for just about everybody. 
I had a customer who works at a grocery store come in with a bike that needed way more repair than it was worth to buy new. I was at a loss at the time for what we could do to help this young man help us all during a difficult time. It took me some thought, but here's my solution
Our rental fleet is now available for long-term rentals only, to essential workers only (grocery, pharmacy, etc.), at $30/week +HST. Any money spent on rental costs can be credited toward buying the bike ($599+HST, including $170 lock, $50 lights, & $50 basket).
This means after renting for 22 weeks (~until August) you can keep that bike that got you to work every day for 22 more years. After 10 weeks, you can pay off the balance (~$375), and own it, too. Thanks for keeping all of us fed, medicated, and safe during this difficult time.
This program is aimed at essential workers only. You'll be asked for proof of employment, as we only have a limited number (8!) of bikes available. All sizes available from XS to XL. Bikes are insured for the duration of your rental, too.
I should also add that you don't have to do a rent-to-own - that's just an option available to you. Rentals are ~$30/week and we'll happily take them back when you're done. Proof of employment at essential service required for rental/rent-to-own.
