I'm hearing a lot of people uncomfortable with demands for hyper productivity without any time to cycle through the emotions that accompany a massive shift in routine (and possibly physical health).
If you are in a position of educational leadership, please recognize that this is your time to challenge the idea that school should be a series of endless tasks and proving productivity.
This is an opportunity to show (not just say) that you value the individuals that keep your ecosystem together and acknowledge that they can and should support one another in achieving healthy work/life balance.
Some people's response to stress is to become hyper productive. I get that. And I acknowledge that I'm speaking from a place of privilege as I'm on Spring Break trying to chill and not responsible for test scores or other indicators of "success".
But I hope folks will see this time as the perfect time to reflect on whether stated words and actions actually match what you purport to believe and what you say your school stands for.
I believe energy is transferrable, even (especially) over zoom calls or social media. Let's be gentle with ourselves and eachother and if we don't know what that means or looks like, dedicate some time to finding out.
...some people are simply grieving loss of time w/students. Zoom is not > or = We all just got told we may not see eachother for 4 or 5 months. That idea takes some time to get used to, especially after investing time and energy building a classroom community (or library).
