Top 10 challenging moments researching ecological & climate calamity:

1. Realising the Amazon Rainforest is set to die within decades.

2. Understanding that liberal capitalism is killing off all butterflies.

3. Grasping that ice melt & future warming may be beyond our control.
4. Learning that the global economy is consuming 100 billion tons of material each year - 50 billion tons more than is sustainable.

5. Discovering there is no record of any species surviving the current rate of climate change, which will soon be the fastest in 65 milllion years.
6. Acknowledging that the oceans are being irreparably damaged in multiple ways, from acidification and deoxygenation to deep sea trawling and mining of the sea bed.

7. Seeing fossil fuel production plans.

8. Beginning to suspect that most species on Earth will soon be extinct.
9. Putting the pieces together on exacerbated water scarcity and simultaneous global crop failures in the near future.

10. Coming to the conclusion that even if human extinction within decades is avoided, it will take mind-boggling transformation and luck to stop billions dying.
I suspect it's still possible to change systems in order to limit the damage and protect everybody. Personally I think we'll need a global ceasefire and true internationalism.

I have great belief in human solidarity & love.

Who knows what extraordinary history the future holds?
