When the media reported on Nixon’s “enemies list,” did they frame it as a result of mutual “bad blood” between Nixon & the people he sought to punish? I don’t recall seeing:

The story here is not the "feud" or the "bad blood" between Romney and Trump but Trump's actions: his use of the bully pulpit to display callous and cruel behavior. The headline and lede should reflect this.

It’s telling that Trump compares COVID-19 to the seasonal flu & to highway deaths, both of which are not, for a variety of reasons, analogous to Coronavirus, but doesn’t compare it to gun deaths, which are, & are actually deadlier more than car accidents. psmag.com/social-justice…
The disanalogy is that preventive measures, led by federal, state, and local governments, are in place so that people can get, for example, pre-emotive flu shots, and are licensed before they can drive, and then drive on roads with speed limits, regulated by law enforcement./2
The analogy is that we know, by comparison with the policies and practices in other countries, that government policies can make a difference in reducing gun deaths and Coronavirus fatalities, and that U.S. efforts in these areas have, for a variety of reasons, lagged./3

This both-sides “clash between Republicans, Democrats” and “partisan disputes” reporting is tragically and dangerously not up to the moment. The substance of the disagreement is not even mentioned, and then obliquely, until paragraph 10. Irresponsible./1 washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020…
How about a lede that says the bill is stalled because the GOP wants to give Mnuchin a $500 billion slush fund for corporations, with no accountability or transparency, while it stints on support for average people? Just as accurate in the details but with intelligible framing./2
The media reflex when the gist of the story is ideological is to talk about process & to revert to “Washington is broken” framing. I think they do this because it seems more “objective” but actually it is less so because it misses the reasons that the “deadlock” exists./3

A close friend just boarded a tiny cruise ship in a foreign country & saw her nemesis at the lifeboat drill. Like NEMESIS. The last time they saw each other was when they SUED each other! They are assigned to the SAME LIFEBOAT! I am riveted.
Picture it: 2 wealthy ladies in their 60s. 1 used to be married to the others’ brother. There is decades of bad blood between them & a very expensive lawsuit. Haven’t seen each other since depositions. The one who won is sitting at the lifeboat drill crocheting a blanket...
...for her newest grandchild when the other walks up and says, “well, hello Sally.” It’s a Viking Cruise. The ship is tiny & the entertainment options are very limited. They are going to be seeing each other CONSTANTLY for the next 2 weeks!

Most of the abuses that this sector of media is critical about come from internet giants, who pay lip service in response, because those abuses are very profitable, & regulation is unlikely in the US & users not motivated enough to change their usage of networks. /2
US regulation that would help stop the criticized practices is unlikely to help, mainly because Congress isn't qualified to design these regulations, so they would leave it to lobbyists working for the industry to be regulated /3

Is there a horse race on putting out phony statements? What is so notable about Obama, who McCain wanted to deliver an eulogy for him, putting out a statement, and Trump, who McCain did not want at his funeral, not doing so? If Trump abstains from being a phony, who does it hurt?
Under 4 U.S.C. § 7(m) and established traditions, the flag of the U.S. is to be flown at half-staff on rare occasions, including:

So the idiotic complaint is about what?
The unhinged media is pompously trying to goad Trump into being a phony and the media is frustrated that he doesn't give a rat's behind about their little parlor games. Considering the bad blood between McCain & Trump, Trump has behaved gracefully enough. Let's leave it at that.
