in our body often for years together. Next time the virus tries to enter the body the antibody is immediately able to mount a response and prevent the virus from doing damage. So those with adequate antibodies to a virus are considered immune to attack by that virus
However for each virus the duration of immunity the antibodies provide varies. In some cases immunity is life long. In some it may be only for a few months & a person can get reinfected. For #COVID this needs to be studied. Also if virus mutates and becomes a different strain
the immunity will not be sustained against the new strain of the virus. So a lot of study is still needed before we know how long the immunity acquired against #COVID lasts. But at least for a few months those with high antibody titers are not likely to be reinfected.
