The study was officially published in the 'ELA Journal of Forestry and Wildlife' - a peer reviewed #science journal, which is also the official journal of the #Maharashtra State #Forest Department.

Time for another #TetZoocryptomegathread, in which we examine the backstory to a photo or film said to depict a cryptid, or monster. This time, weā€™re not looking at a photo claimed to be of a live animal BUT at photos which depict a very dead one: a rotted carcass, in factā€¦
I am of course talking about the ZUIYO-MARU CARCASS: the large, decomposed body of a sea creature, ā€˜capturedā€™ by accident in the nets of the Japanese fishing vessel the Zuiyo-maru on April 25th 1977 while they were about 48km off the east coast of Christchurch, New Zealandā€¦
The name ā€˜Zuiyo-maruā€™ has been written in several ways in the literature (as ā€˜Zuiyomaruā€™ or ā€˜Zuiyo Maruā€™, for example). Iā€™m here going to follow the style used in the 1978 report on the carcass (Zuiyo-maru). And the Zuiyo-maru carcass will be called the ZMC from hereon!

Last week in #zoology my class went over #amphibians & I was struggling to design a remote lab that they could enjoy & do easily.

Wound up going with a frog call analysis activity using #RavenLite and am ā˜ŗļøhappyā˜ŗļø to see how well they did at identifying the šŸø spp calling!
Also, this comment about a student's lab assignment #frog bombing her partner's #Zoom call šŸ˜‚ Image
Y'all....I am currently grading these lab assessments and the comments are making my day. #amphibians for the win! Image

The #zoology #bioblitz continues! Itā€™s going well!

In a student email this morning: ā€œbeing a psychology major this is my first bio blitz...this has to be the most fun I have had all semester...I am terrible at catching the specimens it has been a really great experience.ā€
And earlier in the week a team came by my office:

ā€œWeā€™re looking for #mollusks but arenā€™t sure where to find them.ā€ šŸ˜‚

I sent them to flip logs for slugs and look in ditches and ponds for snails.
The teams have 1 more day to add to their #animal #biodiversity collections (photos, no actual specimens collected).
