After a watershed 2nd Circuit ruling, ex-AG Loretta Lynch has been appointed to help federal prisons “facilitate the expeditious adoption of procedures for dealing with ongoing and future emergencies, including the COVID-19 outbreak."

Her first status report came out yesterday.

One of the immediate concerns is that the Bureau of Prisons suspended family and attorney visits, and much of this status report deals with adapting to video conferencing in its place.

Trump just said that the FDA approved hydroxychloroquine for use against Covid-19.

That is medical misinformation:

The FDA gave an emergency use authorization, with a fact sheet that explicitly says there is no approved product to treat Covid-19. fda.gov/media/136538/d…
Before that, Trump claimed that the hydroxychloroquine works well with azithromycin. The French study which he is citing, here and on Twitter, had a sample size of 26 patients. Six dropped out.

Sanofi is the lead manufacturer of Plaquénil, the branded hydroxychloroquine. Other companies make generics.

Sanofi and its US partner Regeneron were among big pharma companies whose execs met with Trump in the White House on March 2.

Trump keeps promoting a drug that has not been FDA-approved for that purpose.
Lots of folks quote-tweeting the post above with the identical disinformation.

To reiterate for those who may be misled: Permission to use off-label on an emergency basis is not the same as FDA approval.

Trump told reporters at the briefing that he would give the names of American "friends" whom he claims got ventilators to New York. Then, he did not, and nobody followed up.

I want to know those names.
One of the most basic functions of the job: #NameNames.
As the briefing ends, a reporter says one of the names: billionaire Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, whose foundation got a shout-out from Gov. Cuomo earlier today.

Also credited by Cuomo for the ventilators: the foundation of Alibaba's other co-founder and Nets owner Joe Tsai.
