@nytimes has published 2 really good articles about the #coronavirus #CONVID19 regarding the origins & timeline of the virus & the likelihood that it started earlier than most people thought.

On Apr. 21, 2020 @nytimes published this article with a timeline of the #coronavirus #COVID19. The only problem is, like most reporting in the #US so far, it does not go back far enough. It starts with Dec 31st.

Some reporters are starting to look farther back in Dec. for the #coronavirus timeline, but that may not be far enough back. @nytimes needs to coordinate their investigative journalism & broaden the research criteria to at least Nov. starting in-house...

For those that may not have access to @nytimes article above, here is @NPR’s version of the same story. Last update Nov. 18, 2019.
“Three patients have been diagnosed in #Beijing with the most dangerous form of the plague” or was it #coronavirus #COVID19?

npr.org/sections/goats…
“A doctor at #Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Li Jifeng, wrote in a now-deleted post on a social media platform that the people came for treatment on Nov. 3. Li wrote that the patient she saw was a middle-aged man who had a fever and breathing difficulties.”

“After so many years of specialist training, I’m familiar with the diagnosis & treatment of most respiratory diseases,” Dr. Li wrote. “But this time, I looked & looked at it. I couldn’t guess what pathogen caused this pneumonia. I only knew it was rare.”

#Beijing, #China #coronavirus #COVID19

On November 12th, “Chinese censors told online news aggregators to “block and control” conversations relating to #plague news”.

Luckily, some reporting on Dr. Li’s concerns were preserved, yes it’s in Chinese, give me a moment & I’ll translate it for english readers.

#China wanted to stop the spread of news on the #plague & control it starting on the 13th of Nov. not the 12th as I tweeted above. My a apologies for not catching that before I tweeted. 😐

Chinese authorities began to censor the news after Dr. Li’s article was posted to WeChat.
So after the first to patient arrived in #Beijing from Inner Mongolia a 3rd case arrived there as well.
“On Nov. 16, authorities diagnosed a third case of pneumonic plague. The man, age 55, is also from Inner Mongolia though authorities said his case was not related in any way...
to the couple medically evacuated to Beijing. Twenty-eight people who were in close contact with the man have been quarantined and none have exhibited symptoms of the plague.”

This was reported on Nov. 18th in the NPR article as well.
npr.org/sections/goats…
Keep in mind...“The (Nov. 3rd) couple had been ailing for at least 10 days by the time Li saw them. They had sought care some 250 miles north of #China’s capital in Inner Mongolia,...before being sent to #Beijing”.

How many came into contact with them?

11-28
“A herder in Sizing county, Ulanqab was diagnosed with the disease in a local hospital, according to the Inner Mongolian health commission's statement. The person had been active in an area where plague sources had been found before his diagnosis.”
