for everyone who is confused af about the #burma#myanmar#coup - for those who are asking, should we be calling out for #SuuKyi release? but wasnt she the one who defended and oversaw #genocide against #rohingya ? but how come everyone is up in arms about her detention now...
is it the #military or is it #suukyi who is the bad guy here...
I understand and get why you are confused. Let me just say this to clear it up for you - they were in bed together the whole time through.
There has never really been any #democracy in #Myanmar#Burma...
#SuuKyi was just a puppet for the #military. This #coup isnt even really a coup, because according to the #constitution of #Burma the military is legally entitled to do this. So what can the world do I hear you say?...
Well firstly we should have robust resistance the world over. We should see strong statements from everywhere. We most likely will see this happen. But do you know what's infuriating? Where were the statements when there was a #genocide against the #Rohingya?
Where was the response when this military committed #crimesagainsthumanity on the #Karen and #Kachin people? And so it does feel like a hypocritical move for the world to be up in arms cos their darling #SuuKyi has been jailed. And finally what next?....
Well thats the hard one to answer my little cherubs. I think we will see this military 'power' in control for a year at least - we may see violence if there are any #NLD protests - we will probably see #SuuKyi soon again but in even more of a 'puppet' 'limp' mode...
but sadly I think we can expect to see far more #humanrights atrocities and infringements in the days ahead. It is a sad and terrifying day for everyone in #Mynamar and for #humanrights around the globe

From our sources @RestlessBeings we understand that a major PR drive by the military has taken place in #Rakhine state today, particularly targeted at the #Rohingya population
In #Sittwe#Akyab in the #IDP camp of #AungMinglar the Regional Military Commander (believed to be Mying Aung Lwin) visited #Rohingya community leaders for about 45 minutes.
[Thread 3/7]
He went on to explain the 3 main reasons why the #Tatmadaw has taken control: 1. 1 million voters in #Rakhine left off voter lists 2. #NLD violated #Covid19 rules 3. #NLD didn't respond to #military demands of voter lists
For all who are interested in the politics of #Burma and for all those who have been left questioning the logic and timing behind this supposed '#coup' - I think we need to first understand that there was no #democracy to begin with
The 2008 Constitution was written by the #Tatmadaw for the #Tatmadaw 1. 25% seats go to military 2. Military retains power in key depts and retains veto 3. Commander in Chief can call State of Emergency at a whim
The idea of the #Burma constitution 2008 was that with the combination of the 25% reserved seats and with the #military proxy party USDP only needing to secure 25% more of the popular vote, the military would always retain 'democratic' control
Approximately 600,000 #Rohingya remain in #Burma - more than a quarter reside in concentration-like IDP camps and the majority of the rest live in daily fear of new and ongoing violence against them.
The #military#coup could see the #Rohingya facing the backlash once again as it is the same military and leaders that were responsible for #genocide in 2017.
Also they will continue to be excluded from future democratic processes
