Terrorists launch sophisticated attacks on #Pakistan military camps (possibly simultaneously) in #Balochistan close to #Iran and #Afghanistan borders. Both repulsed. Fatalities: 4 terrorists + 1 soldier. Developing situation. Military releases first images: /1 ImageImageImage
In #Panjgur, adjoining #Iran, "terrorists tried to enter security forces camp from 2 locations..timely response by troops foiled attempt. During intense exchange of fire 1 soldier martyred. Terrorists have fled while their casualties are being ascertained"-statement /2
In #Nushki, adjoining #Afghanistan, terrorists attempted to enter Frontier Corps camp "which was promptly responded. 4 Terrorists have been killed. One officer is injured during shootout. Intermittent firing continuing. Further details to follow." - statement /3
My note: The attacks tonight close to #Pakistan's western borders indicate a qualitative jump in attacks inside Pakistan by terror groups operating out of #Afghanistan and #Iran. /4

#Pakistan's military releases first official statement on a terrorist attack in #Kech bordering #Iran & close to #Afghanistan that resulted in 10 soldiers and 1 terrorist killed, several attackers injured. 3 terrorists have been captured after an intense battle. /1
The attack occurred on the night of 25/26 Jan 2022. Terrorists attacked a security post of a paramilitary followed by "intense exchange of fire," according to a #Pakistan military statement. A clearance op is still underway around #Kech, a #Balochistan district bordering #Iran /2

The economy is the main driver behind calling off #Reliance-#Aramco $15B deal, the biggest #India-#KSA investment agreement so far. But there are strong political factors also at play. These factors are not deal enablers or breakers but they impact policy.
#Iran is a factor in #India-#Saudi economic cooperation. Some Saudi experts believe enhanced engagement would wean New Delhi from dependence on #Iran for energy supply and as a strategic partner. Indian policymakers are not ready to part ways with Tehran, an ally since 1979.

In some ways, the opposition is sending messages to PM #ImranKhan to minimize his losses & avoid further empowering #Pakistan's civmil establishment in his last months in power. Meanwhile, the umbrella opposition alliance #PDM, other oppo parties, and some coalition parties/2
are agreed that it would be a mistake to push @ImranKhanPTI out of power now when opportunity exists. No one is eager to replace the ruling #PTI amid political & economic mess. Also, apparent lack of political consensus inside the civmil establishment adds to the uncertainty. /3
