The politics of boycotting films+sports due to #Israel links have failed. Most states in the region will not follow #Lebanon+#Kuwait's lead in banning #DeathOnTheNile; @GalGadot remains a popular artist. /1

#Hezbollah (a proxy militia) controls #Lebanon policy, and #Kuwait politics are dominated by extremists & populists. I remember visiting Kuwait's Ministry of Information when Schindler's List was released to speak to officials about the ban in Kuwait. The lady official I spoke /2
..with did not offer a compelling argument for the ban except repeatedly referring to the "principles," even though the film story was irrelevant to Mideast politics and focused on genocide in Europe. Luckily, the region has moved on but pockets of extreme views persist. /3
#Egypt had no issue with partial filming of @DOTNMovie on its soil. The film will screen in #SaudiArabia #Turkey and much of the region. The politics of boycott in sports and arts as a tool has not proven to be effective. Yet this debate crops up every couple of decades. /4
The politics of boycott have failed in the Middle East. #DeathOnTheNile is being screened regionwide in the largest markets. @waze+@fiverr, & new cooperation in diplomacy, sports, and security means actions similar to #Lebanon+#Kuwait have lost impact. /5

#Pakistan's military releases first official statement on a terrorist attack in #Kech bordering #Iran & close to #Afghanistan that resulted in 10 soldiers and 1 terrorist killed, several attackers injured. 3 terrorists have been captured after an intense battle. /1
The attack occurred on the night of 25/26 Jan 2022. Terrorists attacked a security post of a paramilitary followed by "intense exchange of fire," according to a #Pakistan military statement. A clearance op is still underway around #Kech, a #Balochistan district bordering #Iran /2
