The map is from TG channel DeepState. The 3 towns I've circled from N➡️S are #Soledar#Pidhorodne + #Bakhmut
The first 2 are now occupied. Pidhorodne is just 300m from north Bakhmut and Russians reported to be there now.
A member of the notorious #Wagner group has made a daring escape across rivers + deep snow.
The unnamed man crossed the barbed wire fence, evading shots fired by #Russia security agents, to reach safety in #Norway and is willing to give legal testimony.
Maybe I was a little unfair with the cannon fodder in the last tweet.
Southern Command says it hit 5 Russian bases in #Kherson + #Zaporizhzia regions, with hits in #Henichesk#Melitopol + #Berdyansk. Often I write about blasts in Occupied areas but we only see confirmation later
I'm completely perplexed by the British report today.
They claim Ukraine maintained positions in #Soledar up to yesterday and then say you need uncommitted troops 😵💫
#Dnipro - updated figures, and yes the rescue effort goes on after 44+ hours.
Killed: 35 dead (inc two children)
Missing: 35
Rescued: 39
Injured: 75
Greg M has just tipped me for the work I do daily on this thread. Thanks Greg! Have a great day.
Journalists in #Oklahoma say this plane is carrying around 100 #Ukrainian service men and women, arriving for training on the Patriot air defence system.
To show what a long battle everyone is expecting now, training is designed to last six months or more.
After analysis of the weekend strikes on #Kyiv, it's confirmed #Russia is using the S-400 air defence system as an attacking weapon.
Experts studied the remains of this 48N6DM missile, newly designed for the S-400, It has a range of about 230km/145 miles.
Anti-Putin protests planned for 21 January 21. Alex says this will happen in many cities to mark the 2nd anniversary of opposition politician Alexey @Navalni's arrest in Moscow.
More shelling in #Kherson. Among the latest places damaged by #Russia is another hospital. Thankfully the regional children's hospital was empty at the time and no injuries
In the Dnipro district of the city, enemy shells hit an apartment building and a boarding school building.
In occupied #Donetsk a shopping centre has been hit.
It happened in the Kalininsky district. Two apartment complexes were also damaged in the blast.
I wrote earlier about the problems in #Bakhmut
Here are some new photos of the continuing destruction of the town in #Donetsk.
You may have read that @ChelseaFC paid €100m for #Ukraine striker Mykhailo Mudryk, seen here with his new shirt.
Now owner of @FCShakhtar, Rinat Akhmetov says €25m of the fee will be given to the 'Heart of Azovstal' project, helping 🇺🇦 soldiers and families of the fallen.
In #Soledar, it seems #Russia is still suffering casualties even though #Ukraine has retreated just outside the town.
They say 3 bases of the Occupiers were affected: although the time stamp is ok, I cannot verify this footage.
Rait and Gary W - your support is hugely appreciated. #SlavaUkraini
See my profile for a link if you want to tip.💙💛
#Ukraine's representative at the Miss Universe contest in #USA says she refused repeated attempts by the Russian contingent to take a "friendly" photo together
Miss Apanasenko said "I have only one question for her, no answer yet. Does she support the policy of President Putin?"
Interesting. By the way @amnesty, what happened to that report you promised after investigating the appalling pro-Russian release last year? Still waiting. Never Forget!
The "Minister of Justice" in the so-called '#Donetsk Republic' has been fired.
It's only just been released to media though it happened 6 days ago. No reason has been given.
Yury Sirovatko seemed to revel in the death penalties handed out to Brits @cossackgundi and Shaun Pinner
Blow me down with a feather!
Only a mere 48 hours after the #Dnipro attack (and around two hours after my last post about them). @Amnesty has finally been pushed into making a comment about the tragedy.
This is being reported by some media as having only just happened. However, I understand the blasts in the port town in #Zaporizhzhia were in the early hours this morning
This security camera caught the big flashes of light (no audio)
2/2 This evening the collaborator "Head" of #Russia's occupied part of #Zaporizhzhia admitted the blasts, giving no further details.
These photos have been circulating online of damage on vul.Kabelnyky but the cctv footage looked like a bigger strike to me.
Beth R has just tipped me for doing these threads. Thank you for your kind words and generosity💙💛
I saw a website's interview with one of the alleged #Dnipro killers
As a journalist, in my opinion it's not a story.
The guy didn't admit anything. He used derogatory terms but most Ukrainians use as bad for Russians (and understandably so!)
He may be scum but this isn't a story
Heavy shelling in #Kherson again this evening, but also across the river Dnipro in occupied #Kakhovka.
This is the start of Tuesday's daily thread, with all the important news from, and relevant to, Ukraine in one handy place.
It's Day 1385 and I've still never missed a day of fact checking, analysing and reporting every aspect of the defence against Russia's illegal war.
Yesterday a lot of talking behind the scenes, but politicians were broadly tight-lipped on progress.
Russia did make more small gains on the frontline, but we also found a cat with burned whiskers + how Russian pilots' head-tennis went disastrously wrong
Pres Zelenskyy's whirlwind tour continues, arriving in Rome this morning to meet the Pope at Castle Gandolfo.
At Villa Barberini, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was welcomed by the vice-regent of the papal household, Augustinian Father Edward Daniang Daleng.
Day 1366 of the war in Europe is the start of two days of mourning in a small city in Ukraine which suffered over 160 killed and injured in a single Russia attack 24 hours ago.
As the war crimes mount, Trump approves a mad-hat simpleton's plan to end the war
Here's THE daily🧵
Here's the link for the start of Wednesday's🧵
I posted 65 stories - that equates to a post every 22 minutes throughout the entire 24 hours.
Psychologically a devastating day for Ukraine. Being murdered by Russia, being abandoned by the USA.
A reminder US officials are in Kyiv, due to meet Zelenskyy, when Ukraine's president knows he will have to tell the Americans to shove the surrender document up Witkoff's "White House pass"
Is Rubio undermining the WH plan?
It's certainly not realistic and without 🇷🇺concessions
Welcome to another daily thread covering all the important things happening in Ukraine right now, and therefore by (unwanted association) Russia too.
All things fact checked, analysed and explained.
The news you can rely on, every day, in one place.
It's Day 1361. I'm late!⏰
Well I had a lovely lie-in as, all things considered it was a relatively news-free morning
My "bitter enders" (those who make it through to the very end of the🧵) will know there was a big attack on Dnipro which kept me reporting late.
Missed it? click⬇️
One thing I've had to do is wade through Trump's interview on GB News. It's actually been worthwhile because it's a wonderful example I can use to train what NOT to do!
Main points being:
1'48" to ask a question is dreadful
Such simpering loses all credibility before you begin
The first few hours of Day 1360 of Russia's genocidal war started with Ukrainians in shelters. More innocent lives have been claimed by the Moscow horde.
The west unable or unwilling to stop the slaughter despite 1000s of war crimes.
We're not incapable, must not be unwilling.
One of the heaviest bombardments Kyiv has ever known dominated y'day's thread and the start of today's.
But Ukraine also continues to pick-off financial targets inside Russia
It all made for one of the longest🧵 so far - the least you can do is read it!
Hello again, thanks for visiting my Ukraine thread on Day 1353
Views/likes are down on both sites I post on: possible war fatigue
It's exactly what Putin wants from the world - to wear us down so we accept a deal to stop the killing
This will embolden Putin & hasten war v NATO
Here's the link for Thursday's thread.
It was a day which saw Ukraine inflict a fair amount of damage on Russia's energy sector and the crisis is nearing for Putin as it cannot export oil.
The energy crisis for Ukraine is about people surviving winter:
