During the public comments section of the @SeattleCouncil meeting on 2/14, supporters of the proposed #Caste ordinance turned their ire on the "militant vegetarianism" of #Jains. Hear the sound byte to understand the outright hate being mainstreamed!
Ironically the long and ancient tradition of #vegetarianism among SOME #Hindus, #Jains, #Sikhs and #Buddhists is under fire-even as western society as a whole discovers the benefits of a #plantbased diet and #MeatLessMonday proliferates. 3/n
During the same hearing, another supporter of the #caste ordinance complains of a family member who does not eat outside. What happened to individual choice? Any #SouthAsian parent sending a home packed lunch to school or office - beware! 4/n
#SouthAsians will be expected to eat on demand & in Any/EVERY restaurant - else we will face the dreaded charge of #casteism. All other Americans will continue to have the freedom of picking their eatery & diet, be it #Keto, #Kosher, #Nutfree, #Halaal, #Vegan. #Paleo etc. 5/n
