Excellent thread. Cop sought to illegally draw blood b/c hoped they'd find patient (who cops injured in car-crash) has something in system.
Scenario was high-speed chase, Suspect killed, but cops recklessly plow head-on into innocent driver. He goes to hospital w/grave injuries.
Thus the corrupt CYA routine: to short-circuit discipline/prosecution for hurting dude, hope to prove he was drunk/high. "Reasonable doubt."
But of course THIS GUY WAS AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER. Was literally minded own business when a cop rammed into him. You can't take his blood.
Hence the showdown. The nurse in this situation was a total hero: knew her job, knew her rights. I hope the cop gets drummed out of force.
This is the standard 'comparative/contributory negligence' two-step when it comes to police injuring bystanders in chases.
Yes, this guy was a badass too.
Valuable clarification. But for potential civil suits liability issue same. Hence "let's hope he's drunk" blood move
I am deeply touched by those who credulously repeat back to me 'official line' that police only wanted patient's blood to *exonerate* him.
Yes...police instigate fatal car chase where suspect dies+bystander sent to hospital...and they just want to CLEAR THIS GOOD MAN'S NAME.
Sorry, but you must think me dumber than a particularly dumb sack of doorknobs if you expect me to buy that. This is SOP for PDs.
