Nice (somewhat technical) discussion here on dark matter and gravitational waves
Suuuper simplified:
- some theories mess w gravity to try to kill dark matter
- in those, grav waves & light respond to gravity differently…
- detection of gravitational waves (with LIGO) & light from same distant event within in 2 seconds rules out a huge number of those theories
Upshot is: another point on the side of the scoreboard that says "I GUESS WE'RE PROBABLY GONNA HAVE TO DEAL WITH DARK MATTER BEING A THING"
Dark matter: still the worst theory except for all the other theories.

Light travels at about 1 foot per nanosecond.
Hold your hand up 12 inches from your face: you’re seeing your hand as it was a nanosecond ago. Everything you look at is, to one degree or another, in the past. The farther away in space, the more ancient in time.
You can’t see the Sun as it is now, but you can see it as it was about 8 minutes ago. You can’t see Alpha Centauri now, but you can see it 4.4 years ago. You can see the Andromeda Galaxy as it was 2.5 million years in the past. And so on.

In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams wrote that the trick to flying is to "throw yourself at the ground and miss." It turns out that from a physics viewpoint, this is very nearly correct.
The trick is to actually throw yourself really fast *sideways* such that when you fall, you miss, and keep falling, and keep missing.
Newton drew a picture of this in Principia. Imagine you fire a cannonball so fast that by the time it falls to the ground, it has gone so far that the curvature of the Earth means that the ground is farther away. A planet with an unrealistically tall mountain on it. There are trajectories drawn from the mountain top, of projectiles fired at different speeds. The slow ones fall close to the base of the mountain. The faster ones go further around the Earth. The fastest goes all the way around. There are also some higher orbits depicted in the image.

#Khashoggi Case Thread: I am going to ‘pin’ this post to use it as an ‘Info Thread’ on the #Khashoggi Case. I am in #Turkey. I’ve been following the case closely and with access to sources & experts here. This is a very ‘sensitive’ criminal case due to ‘Diplomatic Booby Traps’!!!
The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

Simplified:

High IQ men try to resolve problems with logic rather than ego/aggression and are likelier to be introverted.

Women are mostly immune to logic & like outgoing guys

But often cave to arrogance & aggression

Dumb guys likelier to be outgoing, arrogant, aggressive etc
I think high IQ men as a whole are lower in dark triad traits: narcissism, psychopathy, machiavellianism than low IQ men

So less able to excite women with mind games

High IQ men high in DT traits are a minority, usually work in finance or law rather than say coding/engineering.
If you have problems attracting women, you are likely higher IQ but low in dark triad traits

Basically a reasonable & pleasant guy. Which means boring.

Dangerous and manipulative men are more exciting. Women are more viscerally attracted to them.

Is why "nice guys finish last"

Here's my layman's not-totally-accurate-but-gets-the-point-across story about how  #meltdown & #spectre type attacks work:

Let's say you go to a library that has a 'special collection' you're not allowed access to, but you want to to read one of the books. 1/10
You go in and go to the librarian and say "I'd like special book #1, and the Sue Grafton novel that corresponds to the first letter of page 1 of that book." 2/10
The librarian dutifully goes and gets special book #1, looks at page 1, sees 'C', and also grabs 'C is for Corpse', and comes back to the desk, but does not show you the books. 3/10
