Look, you little fashy bastards, I keep seeing this BS and it needs addressing... 
The number of Internet Shitbags who seem to think the entirety of the Holocaust occurred at the Polish *extermination* camps is shocking.
The mass killing of Jews began shortly after the invasion of Poland. The 'Einsatzgruppen' followed German forces into eastern territories.
The auxiliary troops, separate from the Wehrmacht, rounded up Jews & executed them by firing squads, right into mass graves.
Six months into Operation Barbarossa (Invasion of Russia), Einsatzgruppen had murdered 24,000 - that's not including any Army atrocities.
Hundreds of thousands of Jews, amongst others, were murdered en-masse, by the Einsatzgruppen between 1941 - 1942.
SS Divisions and the Wehrmacht were responsible for mass killings of Jews in the East to - sometimes ordered to, sometimes spontaneous.
Logistical problems & the breakdown of Einsatzgruppen over their actions inspired the Nazi regime to reconsider their killing strategies.
Mobile gas vans were trialed, using carbon monoxide to kill Jews, in certain areas, but that was found to be inefficient.

In some regions Jews had been sent by rail to concentration camps (where they had been dying from illness & violence) up until then.
From this point on, Jews would be taken to camps to wait before being sent to one of the 6 Nazi Extermination Camps in Poland.
Up to several thousand could arrive at a camp like Auschwitz each day. Many were executed shortly after arrival.
Thousands could be murdered in the gas chambers each day at Auschwitz. auschwitz.org/en/history/aus…
Five *industrial* crematoriums (not of the type that cremated your gran) at Auschwitz *alone* could burn 10,000 a day - also, burning pits!
Don't forget - these camps operated at a reasonably high capacity from 1942 to 1945. Add in prior killings & continuing deaths in transit...
...also, don't forget the mass killings on camps as the Red Army advanced & 6,000,000 is an accurate figure.
