1. Because people deserve a break, I want to talk a bit about how Jack Kirby predicted suicide bombing a terrorist technique.
2. Kirby's great, unfinished epic, The Fourth World Saga (1970-1973) which seemed so bizarre on first publication now looks visionary.
3. One major thread of Fourth World was story of Glorious Godfrey, leader of Justifiers religious cult. 
4. Justifiers have a militant wing that dress in medieval fashion & harasses sinners (modelled I think on real life Carlist sect of Catholic reactionaries)
5. In Forever People #3 (June-July 1971), the Justifier turns out to be a suicide bomber.
6. Dialogue from that sequence: "The Justifier is a human bomb!" & "There is no stopping a Justifier! He can justify his own death!"
7. The entire Glorious Godfrey sequence is about how the fusion of religion with politics of fear leads to violence.
8. Secular suicide bombing has been around for a long time (anarchist, kamikaze pilots) but religious version took off in early 1980s in Lebanon.
9. So a full decade before religion inspired suicide bombing became a visible mass phenomenon, Kirby portrayed it.
10. Incidentally, Glorious Godfrey turns out to be a minion of Darkseid, a great metaphor for religion in the service of tyranny.
11. Kirby's own life was strangely intertwined with history of terrorism. His close childhood friend was Leon Klinghoffer, killed by Palestine Liberation Front in 1985.
