Okay, long thread about the Keurig thing coming. Gonna try to explain why I think it's important, even if you dislike boycotts in general.
I know that many on the right suffer from Boycott Fatigue, and I get it. It's impossible to keep up with all of the companies who support progressive causes and cut them out of your life, especially if you love their product.
Also, many probably don't really care about Hannity because he's fucking clown. That's me, so I get that, too.
Boycotts *can* be effective, though, and picking one or two is easy to stick to. Here's why I think you should consider the @BoycottKeurig thing.
Whether you like Hannity or not, he has been cast as an avatar for conservatism in general. He was chosen precisely because he's divisive within the conservative movement.
I don't like that Hannity is the hill to fight on, but we don't always get to choose our battlefields.
The point is, this isn't about Hannity for the left, either; it's about conservatism. Hannity is a soft target b/c so many on the right hate him, too.
.@Keurig bought ads on the Hannity show with full knowledge of what he was about. They just wanted our money, which is as it should be.
By pulling their ads, they are betting that they will gain more progressive customers than the number of conservative customers they'll lose.
It's a stupid game of chicken that they didn't have to play, because ignoring the original prog outcry would have nipped this in the bud.
Instead, their company name is now part of a trending Twitter hashtag with the word "boycott" preceding it. Oops!
By caving to prog demands, they have taken sides in the political arena. @Keurig is saying that they don't need conservatives as customers.
Fine. Show them what that looks like. Remember, this isn't about Hannity, it's about what he represents to progressives.
What Hannity represents to progressives is support for Trump, whom they see as not just conservative, but *extremely* conservative.
It's important to detach your own views of Hannity and Trump here, because this was put into action by Progressives. It's their views that matter here. This is a culture war battle.
To Progressives, Trump IS the Conservative movement. Unless you are a full NeverTrumper, this is about YOU.
You don't think they will stop with Hannity, do you? They will move on to a more reasonable target next.
They will work their way up that ladder, and before you know it, some center-right every-man like Bret Baier will be in their sights.
They won't be satisfied until every cable TV host is a Rachel Maddow or a Jake Tapper. And then they'll go after the Tappers.
So @Keurig -- and every other corporation -- needs to be shown that taking sides like this is a losing proposition.
The only way to do that is to make @Keurig feel the pain financially.
This is an easy boycott, too, because it's a relatively short one. We're two weeks from Black Friday, and a month and a half from Christmas.
And it's become a high-profile boycott. #BoycottKeurig is trending. If you're gonna pick one to support, pick a popular one. Strength in numbers.
A month and a half to send a message that taking sides against conservatives is a poor business decision. Easy peasy.
#BoycottKeurig: High-profile. Short time-frame. Near the largest retail day of the year. Never will you get more bang for your boycotted buck.
