THREAD --> We're rounding up letters to the editor from people around the country who are NOT pleased that Congress wants to cut taxes for their rich donors and the expense of their constituents. Let's begin:
In Lancaster, Wayne writes: "they should be more worried now that they have admitted they are corrupt" lancasteronline.com/opinion/letter… cc: @RepSmucker @PatToomey
In Minnesota, this constituent is mad at @RepJasonLewis for supporting a bill that "skews dramatically toward the donor class, which supports politicians." southernminn.com/northfield_new…
Terry in Tennessee doesn't mince words: "Nothing brings Republicans together more than creating obscene tax giveaways for their donor base." timesfreepress.com/news/opinion/l… cc: @repchuck @BobCorker @SenAlexander
Gordon in Kansas City: "tax 'reform' seems to be a hidden agenda for cutting taxes on super-rich donors to Republican campaigns". kansascity.com/opinion/letter… cc: @SenPatRoberts @JerryMoran @RepKevinYoder
Greg in Granite Bay CA writes @RepMcClintock "wants to at least get something for his donors ASAP". sacbee.com/opinion/letter…
Robin in Solano Beach: "Our Congress must act in the interests of constituents, not donors, and stop giving tax breaks to the rich." cc: @DarrellIssa sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/sd-gop…
Christina in Newport News: "Republicans ought to be ashamed of themselves for proposing this legislation. Trickle down economics does not work, and giving tax cuts to wealthy donors is disgraceful." cc: @BobbyScott dailypress.com/news/opinion/d…
Ruth in Palm Springs: "The new tax proposals before Congress favor the people who are the biggest donors to the politicians." cc: @CongressmanRuiz desertsun.com/story/opinion/…
And Rick in Naples, Fl, just wants to meet with @RepRooney to talk about the issues, but "I am not a big donor and I do not think that I will ever see the inside of Rooney's office." naplesnews.com/story/opinion/…
Keep calling your senators, and keep writing letters to the editor! We deserve a tax bill that works for all of us, not just wealthy donors.
BUT - as so many of you understand in your gut - we also have to address the big money system that got us here. Until we change who pays for campaigns, there will always be a harmful bill politicians are trying to pass for their donors, at our expense.
Small-donor matching & voucher systems totally change the balance of power so that people with $5 are heard as loudly as people with $5 million
If you are sick & tired of being in this position of fighting against a bill that is for big donors, not voters, be sure to also ask your reps to sign on to the Gov't By The People Act next time you call.
