1/ A few observations on Bannon developments. First and most fascinating is how wrong the #FakeNews was on Steve. He’s not Trump’s brain or conscience. This whole thing exposes just how wrong they all are but have they acknowledged that? No. Which is why they have no legitimacy.
2/ I just heard @davidaxelrod say on @CNN that this episode coming on the heels of good news for Trump is devastating. I mean these people are so wrong so often it’s stunning. That is literally the exactly wrong take on this.
3/ Look I’m on Twitter a lot. The new right has sided nearly 100% with Trump. Compare this to early last year during Syria missile attack or Javanka kerfuffle and you see just how much that part of the base has moved away from Bannon and towards Trump who has earned their trust.
4/ This development and the discrediting of Bannon is crucial leading into the Republican primaries, particularly the Senate primaries. The selection of the right candidates that can win general elections is crucial to pro Trump agenda governance. Losing ideologues don’t help.
5/ I backed Trump from the start. One main reason? He wouldn’t get stuck in ideological traps like Obama did or Cruz would have. This was Bannon’s undoing. Trump isn’t a “We lost but we defended our principles” type leader. He’s a winner. Bannon proved to be a spectacular loser.
6/ So as this fight fades into the background where are we? Trump is on a role. He’s winning. He has the Republican Party fighting for and passing his agenda and the one force out there that could disrupt momentum, Bannon, has been neutered. This is the opposite of devastating.
7/ You may think @SenMajLdr having a big smile on his face is a bad thing. It isn’t. If Alabama taught you anything it’s that if the GOP establishment voter stays home we will lose the mid-terms spectacularly. To complete the agenda we need each other.
8/ Every time Trump engages one of these fights the media screams about how bad it is for Trump and how this time it will be his undoing. And every time Trump comes out stronger and better positioned to fight the battles ahead. This episode with Bannon is no different. /end
