I’m a survivor of gendered violence, for instance. So it would not be an abstract debate over drinks for me to chat with Bari Weiss about her apologist stance towards male aggression. Not should I be expected, as women often are, to pretend that my past trauma is a laugh.
It’s emotionally taxing to deal with people who support Trump, who clearly believe the violence I’ve endured doesn’t matter. It’s unfair to add to that burden by expecting me to cajole these folks, especially as they tend to get pleasure out of mocking people’s actual pain.

This matters, because it means that the percentage of false rape accusations is infinitesimal. The odds that a man who is accused is being falsely accused is well below 2-8%, and probably well below 1%. And being falsely accused after a date? Nearly unheard of.
So men who claim to be worried about dates falsely accusing them should be more worried about being stuck by lightning on the date. Most who express this worry, however, are actually worried about true accusations and are trying to poison the well before that happens.

It’s like the insanity defense. The rule of thumb is “would they do it with a cop watching?” If not, then they know better and have self-control, and are choosing not to employ it.
“Men can’t control themselves” is just a convenient excuse to police women out of doing things sexists don’t like. I’m not surprised, for instance, that Moonves allegedly attacked a doctor. He was probably threatened by a woman taking on that role and wished to hurt her.

There's a terrifying lack of understanding (some willful, some ignorance) about what constitutes rape, assault, harassment & why those things are damaging. Lot of emails/replies saying "it wasn't rape, shut up." Like jerking off is a normal thing people do at parties, at work.
