This is a dangerous disregard for the rule of law by Pennsylvania Republicans. Impeaching judges because one disagrees with a court decision that strengthened democracy is a classic move of authoritarian regimes
What's scary is that there's little Pennsylvania Dems could do to stop the GOP from trying to impeach these judges. The GOP needs just a simple majority in the state House & 2/3 in the state Senate. Their gerrymanders of both chambers have given them sufficiently large majorities
I doubt Pennsylvania GOP legislative leaders have much appetite for trying to impeach Democratic state court judges over their anti-gerrymandering ruling. But the fact that a GOP legislator is even discussing it shows how far the GOP has fallen down the authoritarian rabbit hole
Mark my words, if Dems/liberals ever retake a majority on the U.S. Supreme Court, Republicans will concoct some bogus pretext to try to pack it with more members the instant they regain both Congress & the presidency
Good thread on all the efforts of state-level Republicans to undermine the rule of law since just 2011. Pennsylvania Republicans are not alone
